Acerca de esta escucha

A record-breaking 56 million American women are unemployed [From The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), February 2015].

A woman is lucky if she has any kind of job at all today! But even if she still has a job, she may work at a dirty job like I did, at a fast food restaurant as a fry cook, flipping greasy hamburgers and fries (then serve them to abrupt, arrogant customers all day long), or as a cleaning lady for a small motel chain, changing hundreds of kids' smelly, urine-stained bed sheets at 5 A.M. (at that hour, I was out of my mind and half asleep), or as a maid for a home-maid service, cleaning filthy, diarrhea-incrusted toilets in old people's homes (I worked even when I had splitting headaches from all of the strong cleaners and disinfectants).

I had those three dirty jobs until I quit them all, got smart, and married a rich millionaire. Then, I wrote How to Marry Mr. Rich in order to teach every woman in the world that it is really very possible for you to marry a rich millionaire, too! So, if you are a struggling, poor, or middle-class woman that desperately craves "the good life", then you need to learn and understand what the past generations of poor and middle-class mothers always told their poor and middle-class daughters: "You will have a lifetime of miserable poverty married to a poor man, and you will have a lifetime of trivial boredom married to a middle-class man, so marry Mr. Rich."

Although sounds rehearsed, Information IS Genuine!

What made the experience of listening to How to Marry Mr. Rich the most enjoyable?

I have dated "Mr Rich" several times in my life and enjoyed the gifts, perks and bragging rights thereto. However, none of these men were what I considered "Marriage material" at the time. Now at 51, I am again seeking someone like Mariah's ex, or the recently passed founder os the Mars candy company. I was wondering how to re-up my game and noted several points that once applied immediately caught the eyes of those I was trying to attract, even while walking alongside my current Mr Crude and Common. The dress recommendations and suggested posturing are key components women often forget. I also found the "WHERE to find Mr Rich" informative. These are not locations I frequent, but WILL after this book!!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of How to Marry Mr. Rich?

The Flirting Sequence.

What about Madeline Starr’s performance did you like?

That she speaks to ALL women.

What did you learn from How to Marry Mr. Rich that you would use in your daily life?

Clothing and confidence..

Any additional comments?

Great listen, will listen again!

Clear concise to the point

I enjoyed reading this book so very much. Initially I felt guilty reading it as I thought to myself what a gold digger I must be. In the end I completely disagreed with this original school of thought. The author is to the point and actually gave great ideas to women to navigate the game of love. Thanks for the great insights.

Some great practical advice, but not without flaws

If you could sum up How to Marry Mr. Rich in three words, what would they be?

This is unique because she is very specific as far as places to go and where to rent clothing to fit the part.

What other book might you compare How to Marry Mr. Rich to and why?

Not sure.

Have you listened to any of Madeline Starr’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Go to a nude beach to meet your future husband...hmmm not sure about that one.

Any additional comments?

She must say 50 times someone that makes over $150,000 per year is rich. I don't think that is considered rich in most parts of the United States. She really should say 1 million dollars or more a year. She says it so many times it becomes redundant and irritating. Almost like an infomercial. She also seems to plug some online businesses that may be helpful to look into, but it seems obvious she must be getting some compensation. She keeps repeating the names like a commercial.

Interesting Suggestions

The listen isn’t long. There are a number of interesting suggestions on where and how to meet Mr. Rich. The audio has issues with skips and repeats.

Sloppy editing & strange word choice but good tips

There are some obvious problems with how the audio was edited, with many spoken repetitions the editor forgot to cut out.
Plus the narrator sometimes mispronounces proper nouns like Cogna, Greenwich, Chappaqua.

And the author worked in lots of strangely specific ideas like “you must book the Waldorf Astoria for New Years Eve” - not my sense of humor and you have to have enough of a critical eye to tell when she’s being hyperbolic.

Plus her recounting the low points in her life include several overly-gratuitous descriptions of bodily fluids—those all could have been left out! We get it, you used these strategies to get out of the worst possible living conditions but we don’t need to know the gory details!

It feels like the (American) author hired a British ghostwriter, considering how many strange British-isms have worked their way into the prose (“pub”, “100 thousand “and plus””, etc). Felt incongruous.
