A modern thief

Katherine Goldman is a professional with world-class skills, but the expertise of the family firm doesn't lie within the scope of legitimate commerce. Goldman & Associates steals priceless treasures and delivers them to the highest bidder - and business is good.

When Katherine lands in Scotland to boost some relics, nothing in the experience of this notorious thief prepared her for a collision with a dark, rakish man wearing plaid...who happens to be trapped inside an ancient mirror.

A man imprisoned in time

Centuries before, Simeon Campbell had no idea the woman he charmed was a witch of unspeakable power. When Simeon refuses her gift of immortality, he quickly learns there is no wrath like a woman scorned.

Cursed to spend eternity within the bonds of her enchantment, Simeon is lost time and nearly bereft of hope. Until he's accidentally released by a lass with questionable motives, in a century he could never have imagined....

One wicked curse

As the pair plunge into a journey where danger trails them at every turn, this man of honor is determined to stop at nothing to save the woman he's sworn to protect. But Katherine stubbornly knows better than to clash with an enemy face to face. If Simeon is determined to defeat ancient evil at its source, he's going to need help. He's going to need a thief.

Narration makes a difference

No idea what I was getting myself into, but that was not the issue. I was pulled in by the fact that it was going to take place in the highlands of Scotland and that there was an element of romance, a bit of suspense and mystery and the story took place across time. Kat of modern times and Simeon a cursed highland male. This was one that required you to pay attention, sit back and enjoy the journey as it began in 1600s Scotland. Come on and enjoy the ride.

The narration from Greg Patmore brings to life the depth of the Scottish hills and this unlikely romance of a modern theif and a highland warrior. I loved the accent and the rich timber that resonated throughout the story. I felt immersed in the world of highland warriors and a modern times thief. It was the narration that pulled it all together for me and allowed me to feel part of the historical/contemporary fiction.

I Would Listen To Again

This was a pleasant surprise. It's been a while since I listened to a historical book. It's not really a romance per se but more of a historical adventure. But it's also a current adventure since we start in the present before traveling back to the past. On top of that we get a little of a paranormal mystery. What happened to Simeon Campbell to bring him to this point in time? Was it meant to be that Katherine Goldman would be the one to set things in motion?

Our author gives her readers a little bit of everything. Some would think that it would be confusing but she makes it all seem believable. Katherine is an interesting woman who on one hand can't understand what's going on but is willing to accept what's happening - eventually. Simeon isn't quite sure what's going on but he's a strong man that's willing to take a chance to find a solution.

No offense to Mr. Patmore but when I started listening to him I thought of Sean Connery. I had no trouble thinking of Simeon with a younger face of Mr. Connery. He helped to carry me back to the Highlands and the people that live there. He also helped me become apart of the present mystery and how Katherine is going to go about solving it. Mr. Patmore may not have the best female voice but that didn't bother me. He did a great job in getting me to like this story and looking forward to more.

I look forward to seeing what else Ms. Norem has written. I want to see where else she is going to take me and what my next adventure is going to be. I may even see what other books Mr. Patmore has narrated. He did a great job in transporting me out of my living room and taking me to the Scottish Highlands. These two made a great pair.

Good Romp Through Time

Kat is an accomplished professional thief who comes from a family of thieves. Murray, the head of this little gang of international thieves sent her to Scotland to acquire a few items without the normal amount of preparation. She has to steal some ancient coins and in order to do this, she crashes a wedding taking place at the castle where the coins are housed. When she goes to steal them she hears a voice, but there is nobody there, then she finds the source, it's a mirror and when she looks into the mirror she does not see herself, she sees a mans face, and she can hear him speaking to her!

Simeon is a Highland Lord who has been trapped in an enchanted mirror by Isobel, a witch, he’s been imprisoned for 400 years. He has had no contact with anything or anyone other than Isobel, this would make a lesser man go mad. Imagine his surprise when he hears sounds coming from outside the mirror, and when the mirror is uncovered by Kat he can see her and she can see him - what's more, they can hear each other!

Kat completes her task but not without some complications and decides to take the mirror with her. Simeon keeps berating her to release him by saying a certain phrase and when she gets so fed up with his constant noise she says the words and is confronted by a 6'4" man in Highland costume.

There is an instant attraction between these two, they have incredible chemistry but why has Kat been able to see and hear him? How will he adapt to life in the 21st century? The pacing is fast, the characters are well drawn and have great chemistry, the bedroom scenes are incredibly hot but they can't spend the rest of their lives in bed now, can they? The adjustment period as Simeon has to figure out 21st-century plumbing, dress codes, and Kat is very well done, he copes remarkably well. In addition to Kat and Simeon, we meet Kat's brother Ian who strikes up a friendship with Simeon and teaches him to Google! Ian also does some research and steals, well I did say it's a family of thieves, an ancient book telling them how to destroy Isobel and her magic for good. The three decide to go back to 7th century Scotland and destroy the evil witch Isobel. There is so much more I could tell you but that would spoil what I thought was a really good and sometimes amusing romp into the past.

Greg Patmore has a beautifully rich Scottish accent, I really enjoyed how he played Simeon and the other males in the story but his interpretation of Kat who is American didn't work well for me. His female voices as a whole need more femininity. His pacing is good and he did have distinct voices for all the characters.

Enjoyed the time travel story

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review

I always like a good time travel story.

Simeon, a Laird in Scotland, has been trapped in a mirror by Isabel the witch, he's been there since the 1600's.
Kat of modern times thief is in Scotland (under the family business), to obtain some artifacts, of one which she stumbles upon is a mirror, with Simeon trapped in side.

Kat steals the mirror, knowing someone is inside, but not quite sure how they ended up there. Mystery and intrigue are afoot.

This is was good story with romance and intrigue.

Loved the story!

Switching from old Scotland, modern day, back to Scotland had me enthralled. The story was entertaining and fast paced. The characters were humorous and the main story line a sizzling romance. It was an easy listen and Greg Patmore is a top audiobok narrator.

Fun brain candy!

This was a fun little bit of brain candy. Kate is an accomplished professional thief who comes from a family of thieves. There’s conflict between her and Murray, the head of this little gang of international thieves. She’s being sent to Scotland to acquire a few items. That’s where she bumps into Simeon who is trapped in an enchanted mirror. He’s been there since 7th century and his style of ordering Kate to free him doesn’t go over well with her. The flirtation and lusty looks start immediately.

The pacing is fast, the characters simple and easy to grasp, and the sexytimes are hot. There’s that fun adjustment period as Simeon has to figure out 21st century plumbing, dress codes, and women. Then there’s the quest back to 7th century Scotland and a battle with the evil witch Isobel.

Besides the sexytimes, there’s insta-lust and near insta-love between our two main characters. There’s immediate insta-love between two minor characters later in the story which I rolled my eyes a little at. The characters are pretty one dimensional but I wasn’t here for deep characters and integral plot. The lust and flirtatious behavior between Simeon and Kate was amusing and sometimes had me chuckling.

I especially liked Kate’s hand to hand combat skills. She was no fainting daisy… well, except that once. She’s not above using tactics to keep Simeon from harm, which was great. I wasn’t too thrilled at her chosen profession but perhaps she’s ready for career change.

Simeon… well, his name kept me thinking of ‘simian’, as in monkey or ape. It’s not Simeon’s fault, but I couldn’t help but mentally picturing a well muscled ape in a kilt. As a character, he was good in the bedroom and rather just typical archetype the rest of the time.

Kate’s brother, Ian, was fun but we don’t get much about him. We get even less on Sofia, Simeon’s sister. Also, I would have liked more about the witch Isobel as her motivations were pretty thin. All together, it was a fun bit of fluff though I would have liked a different name for Simeon and a little more character depth. 3.5/5 stars.

The Narration: Greg Patmore has a beautifully rich Scottish accent for Simeon. I really enjoyed how he played this character and I especially appreciated his performance for the bedroom scenes. However, his female voices need more femininity. Quite a bit more femininity. His pacing is good and he did have distinct voices for all the characters. 4/5 stars.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Olivia Norem. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Good story

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. The story was very well developed and the humor made it go down well. The narrator read in I assume a Scottish tone and this was hard to understand. I loved the interactions between Heather(Cat) and Siemian. when he burst through the car window was too funny. Overall the story was very good. The narration just was hard to take. The ending was very well done.
