good narrator

It was good listen. The narrator did great drawing you in, however some parts of the story were a little predictable and I was left with so many questions at the end of the story

Creepy as heck!!!

This binge-worthy story had me checking dark corners and whirling around a few times I heard some unidentified creaking around the house. It was so good! I devoured it. I saw some grumble about the ending, but I thought it was great. Satisfying from start to finish.

Wow!

As a fan of horror, no book has ever scared me… until now. And I’ve read everything... This book is amazing from beginning to end... I envy someone jumping into this for the first time like I just did.

Actually scary

Listen to a lot of horror and thrillers - this is the only one that has scared me in a long time. Great narration and story telling!

Closet Monster

Gives a lot more character to the monster in the closet story. Incredible voice acting. Well done!

Ms. Gill’s delivery of Malerman’s imagination.

Okay.

Due to “a perfect storm,” I’m on day four of five at work. What actually REALLY SUCKS about that is that my audiobook just finished.

At 12:03 AM.

Given the book, this isn’t so much irony as it is appropriate.

The book is called “Incidents Around the House” by Josh Malerman, and is narrated by - because I can’t think of a better word to USE in the stead of “narrated” - Delanie Nicole Gill.

You know… I get that some people can’t focus on audiobooks, I do… but I can’t honestly imagine digesting this work with anywhere near the satisfaction of it were fed to me any other way.

Malerman’s work is amazing. Some of you might remember a little ditty he did a few years back… a precious little offering of prose and dialogue called “Bird Box.”

This one is… well, in MY OPINION? This one is better.

So… how to do this without even the HINT of spoilers…?

Okay. I described it to a friend of mine tonight as I neared the 1/2 way point as “Imagine a really intense, really better-realized ‘Poltergeist.’”

Now that I’m finished with it, I’m not sure that’s 100% fair.

See… my generation, really, probably counts “Poltergeist” as our “The Exorcist” to a degree?

Maybe that fits?

I know that we were all pretty much young enough that not many of us slept with a closet door open, or even dared to look under our beds before we went to bed at night for fear of being harranged by a long-armed clown or what have you.

I, for one, opted for a plug-in night light after that movie… a habit that is still adhered to in modern nights. I simply cannot/will not sleep in pitch black darkness.

But if “Incidents Around the House” had been the movie we saw INSTEAD of “Poltergeist?”

We’d all be in fucking therapy right now looking for a way past it, or for a healthy trick to compartmentalizing it.

You guys know I read a lot… watch a lot of documentaries… lots of media… and that when I come across something that SETS THE BAR, I say so.

And with very, very few exceptions I’m NOT wrong.

If you read, if you want a bone-chilling story that you won’t soon forget, and if you trust that I wouldn’t steer you wrong, GO GET A COPY OF THIS BOOK.

Now that being said, if you want to experience it in the way *I* did, and you want to literally have someone immerse you into the characters of the story BALLS DEEP? Then get the Audiobook and let Ms. Gill mesmerize you for a few hours with her voice acting.

It’s ridiculously well done.

It’s an OUSTANDING novel.

Narrator deserves an award.

Wow… I couldn’t stop listening to this one. Something made me purchase it before waiting for my next credit, and I don’t regret it. Great pace, suspenseful at just the right moments, amazing(!!!) performance by the narrator. This was my first book by the author and I’ll definitely be checking out more of his work. Highly recommend!

wow...BRUTAL!

I read a lot of horror and I have not been scared by any thing in a very long time... incidents around the house changed that.
dark as f**k. it goes places that very few novels about children would go too.
I read Goblin a few months ago and this has me wanting to read The Birdbox now too.
malerman does beat you over the head with the metaphor too much...maybe a little near the end. for the most part he let's the story speak for itself.
BTW I did not anticipate the end at all.
this is a brutally dark story that might leave you devastated.

YES YES YES AMAZING BOOK!!!!

This was by far the best scary book I’ve read! I couldn’t stop listening because it was almost impossible! The little girl as the narrator was spot on!!!!!

Amazing!

This was the first audio book that really left me feeling unnerved after listening to it. I really enjoyed that it was from a little kid's perspective. The ending had me on the edge of my seat.
