Acerca de esta escucha

A dramatic and compelling true-crime psychological thriller

This incredible story shows how John Douglas tracked and participated in the hunt for one of the most notorious serial killers in US history. For 31 years a man who called himself BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) terrorized the city of Wichita, Kansas, sexually assaulting and strangling a series of women, taunting the police with frequent communications, and bragging about his crimes to local newspapers and TV stations. After disappearing for nine years, he suddenly reappeared, complaining that no one was paying enough attention to him and claiming that he had committed other crimes for which he had not been given credit. When he was ultimately captured, BTK was shockingly revealed to be Dennis Rader, a 61-year-old married man with two children.

“Quan-TEE-co”?!?!

I don’t know who they found to read this, but he needs a new day job. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed other books by John Douglas but found this drier- and the narrator is a hot mess. Pronouncing it “Quan-TEE- co” is absolutely absurd- and makes me think this wasn’t ever really checked or edited. He’s also monotonous and grating.

Interesting book but the narrator needs some help

Interesting book but the narrator mispronouncing words REALLY bothered me to the point I almost stopped.

Great story, great insight ,hard read

John Douglas’s memoirs of his days as a profiler and his insights into the criminal mind are spellbinding and always hard to put down. But the nitpicker in me finds it very hard to hear the multiple mispronunciations by this narrator … I mean , how many times does someone say Quan-teek-o before someone says “Um,hey, no one pronounces it that way” . And believe me , that’s by far not the only words this guy doesn’t know .

Great read, but the narrator was terrible

I almost stopped listening because the narration was so poor. Stilted, unnatural, and with many words mispronounced. I'm glad I stuck with it, though, because it is a very interesting story.

Good information but...

Good information for those who require a deep dive on this type of offender. But the narrator mispronounced even simple words. "QuanTEEco" are you kidding me?

Interesting story

I think the writing was good. Maybe not the best one Douglas has done but good nonetheless. The narration was awful. Multiple mispronounced words, robotic flow, just not good at all. He did not do Douglas' words justice.

WORST NARRATION EVER!

As usual the content and story of a John Douglas book is without compare when it comes to the true crime genre, but the narrating of this book is like having a kindergartener do it. Constant mispronounced words etc. Who narrates a book from a former FBI agent and can't pronounce Quantico? or Et cetera? Are you serious? those are just two of the many examples of the constant errors in the narrating. Not to mention it sounds like he narrated in in his bathroom. I recommend reading this book, but def not listening to it.

captivating at every point

For those interested in true crime and more specifically the psychology and crimes of serial offenders, there is no better author than FBI profiler John Douglas. In addition to his intimate, experience-driven insights into the minds of the most depraved murderers, his immaculate and descriptive writing style allow the audience to fully envelope themselves in the times, places, and events he illustrates. Often this quality is utterly bone-chilling, to fantastic effect. The accuracy of facts presented and revelation of exclusive information on the case are delightful for those who seek to know every nitty gritty detail. The story of BTK is one for the ages, and there is no better person to tell it than the Mindhunter himself. The narrator's voice performance was notably grating in my opinion, citing certain mispronunciations and an overall blandness. However, in pushing past those minor grievances I was immediately rewarded with one of the most in-depth and fascinating true crime stories I've read to date.
