Excited, enthralled, and a bit dissapointed....

What did you love best about Lady Maybe?

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

What did you like best about this story?

The ending was really surprising which almost never happens anymore! Well done Miss Klassen :) Of course I also loved the reality of the characters' struggles and the redemption story within.

How could the performance have been better?

I did not care for the narration.... there was very little change of inflection and a lot of the characters sounded the same. I may just be spoiled after hearing narrators like Simon Prebble and Elizabeth Jasicki... but it definitely affected how much I enjoyed the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I really thought the story was very good! It was hard for me to separate the story from the narration unfortunately...

Plot

Ms. Klassen's novels have intricate design and depth of plot. I am always kept in suspense, wondering what will be around the next corner and pleased when I reach it and find it is not what I expected. It is better. Julie Klassen's novels are among those at the top of my Favorite's list.

A Human Woman, Flawed and Merciful

The heroine is called Hannah, and I wish all women were more like her. She is not by any means perfect but she is saved by grace and lives accordingly as best she is able. Hannah is merciful and kind to those who hate her. She tries to do the right thing without thought for revenge. She sees her own selfish nature and tries to sent herself aside.
This story is a bit of mystery, a bit of romance, and an excellent picture of a women's life in 1819 England.

Very entertaining...surprising twists and turns!

The narrator did a very nice job of making the voices and held attention very well.

A riveting story!! There is a twist!

I loved listening to this story!! It was gripping, and I enjoyed the added humor. I loved the character "Mrs. Terrell", the story leaves you pondering what happened to her husband.
All around and good story, and it was also quite unpredictable, not like most stories I read! Fantastic story and a wonderful ending!

RAW, NO FLUFF!

This book brought me to tears several times during the reading. It is filled with twists and turns that I did not see coming. I had compassion for so many of the characters in this tale. What a heartbreaking situation that Hannah finds herself in. I, like Hannah, went back and forth between her options. In the end, she truly picked the right one.

The narrator, Saskia Maarleveld, is so good that I didn't even notice that it was the same person doing the different voices. It was a perfect narration for a perfect story.

one of my favorite Julie Klassen audible books!! So suspenseful from the beginning. I truly think this one of her best , even though I love all of her writings.

It was good, but could’ve been better

I enjoyed the book - save for the fact that the father of the baby had to be such a secret. That was really annoying to me. Had I been in possession of a written copy I would’ve flipped forward to get that information so that the book could’ve been more enjoyable. The fact that it wasn’t until chapter 19 - 10 minutes in or so before that was revealed was really annoying. I also think that given who the father was some of the initial character dynamics were not consistent with that fact. I don’t want to spoil the mystery for others who might have enjoyed the mystery behind the father of the baby, but for those who don’t, head over to chapter 19. Beyond that, I enjoyed the book - it reminded me of Rebecca & Jane Eyre with similar elements to both. I seriously think this could’ve been a favorite except for the inconsistency in the relationships throughout.

Julie Klassen has a way of transporting her readers into the times, feelings and emotions of her stories. this book was no different. I looked forward to this release for several months, and it was well woth the wait! I loved it!

Maybe I like this!

I found this book difficult to get into. About a quarter of the way in, I read the reviews. Seems like people either really liked it or didn't . I decided to stick to it and I'm glad I did. It has interesting twists and kept me guessing all the way to the end and it ended the way I hoped! As for the "steamy" parts that some reviewers didn't like, I didn't think they are were bad at all. I thought the narrator did a pretty good job but she really didn't need to lower her voice so much for the male characters. I will definitely get more books by this author.
