Maud grows more human and likeable, her world and kingdoms expand, and the stakes start to escalate to reality ending heights. I wonder if the next book will be the last?

More Maud, more good.

Thickening plot, protagonist is still charming and deranged in her own special way. Can't wait for the next one in the series.

Such an amazing take on a lich and they’re my favorite monster. Cannot wait for the next one.

Ella Lynch is a freaking incredible narrator

I love this series. I read the first two books on Kindle a year or so ago and when I saw that there were four books on Audible I was very excited. Audiobooks are so lovely for multitasking! And these books are especially good for gardening and cooking — It’s lovely to imagine myself a badass, undead witch with her people mulch as I am weeding my tulips.

Most importantly, though, the narrator of these books is the best narrator I have ever heard. I have never been so enthralled by someone’s voice or performance and I have a listened to a LOT of audiobooks. She reads lines MUCH better than how I did in my head and often gets a laugh out of me where I wouldn’t have with text alone by the way she delivers sass or emphasizes Maud’s thoughts. (Although, to be fair to the author — the text is very funny to start with!) I also love how she lingers on the author’s lovely descriptions, as rightly deserved. In general, Ella clearly thinks out the way she will deliver the story and it definitely shows. So well done! I want to hear her on more of my books in the future.

Don't Miss This One

If you are here, you know these books are wonderful. This one in particular was super interesting to me, and of course, filled to the brim with dark humor. There is a lot added to the story in this book, with the promise of an interesting adventure in the next. I highly recommend it.

Simply amazing

H J Tolson really hit it out of the park with this series! Gore mixed with laugh out loud humor, along with heart touching sentimentality. The narration is wonderful, so much so, that, as I'm now having to read the 5th book ( Audible doesn't have it yet ) in my mind I hear Ella Lynch's voice. The characters are so very relatable. The way main character, Maude, is presented makes her feel like she's someone you would want to be friends with in real life. Well... maybe not her litch side, but definitely her once human side lol. I love the way she struggles with her morality. I mean, if you're an inherently evil by design litch, of course you're a villain, but Maude is one of the best anti hero characters I've ever run across. Her love for frilly, pretty, hand made clothes, gardening, her forest, and of course her cat, Jenkins, flies in the face of the normal litch tropes. The way she cares without wanting to care about her humans, and her droggers is very well crafted, and meshes extremely well with her darker soul eating side. The author leaves nothing to the imagination. I really enjoyed to peek inside Jenkins, and the way he views his world. The world building, and character creation brings everything to vibrant life (pardon the pun) for the listener. Everything is so very descriptive, that you have nothing left to wonder about. I didn't want to include any spoilers in my review, so, all I can tell you is that I highly recommend this.
