Resumen del Editor
The self-proclaimed "Mayor of Miami" Trick Daddy exploded onto America's pop culture landscape as one of the pioneers of Dirty South rap. His 2001 album, Thugs Are Us, established him, as one critic wrote, "alongside Ludacris and Mystikal as one of the few nationally championed Dirty South rappers and catapulted him onto the playlist of every urban radio station in America, not to mention MTV."
Widely credited with infusing hip hop with new life, he has been one of the most prolific southern talents since his introduction on Uncle Luke's timeless 1996 dance floor staple, "Scarred".
Magic City: Trials of a Native Son chronicles Trick Daddy’s story against the backdrop of Miami, the Magic City. Beginning in the McDuffie riots as the city burned with racial tension, it is an extraordinary story of a childhood marked by poverty, a crime-laden adolescence, an incarceration, a meteoric rise to fame, and a struggle with a potentially fatal medical condition.
It's the story of a boy whose father was a pimp, who, left to his own devices, learned to hustle to survive and whose only role model was his brother, the drug dealer he watched playing his trade on the block. But while his story is remarkable, the most astonishing part is that he is not only still alive, but that he got out.
Magic City: Trials of a Native Son is the story of how that potent mixture of extremes; the dazzling beauty and glittering wealth of the Magic City; and the crime, the corruption, and the despair playing out in its shadows gave rise to what has now become the most dominant sound in hip hop, in the process revitalizing a stagnant art form. Magic City, told in Peter Bailey's artful prose, is an ode to the city of Miami, a riveting tale of a paradise lost.
"A vivid story about Miami's countercultural history." (Jon Caramanica - The New York Times)

To many in the age of Obama, America had succeeded in "going beyond race", putting the divisions of the past behind us. And then 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot by a wannabe cop in Florida; and then 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri; and then Baltimore blew up; and then gunfire shattered a prayer meeting at a church in Charleston, South Carolina. Suddenly the entire country awakened to a stark fact: Young Black men are an endangered species.

With his now-legendary store on 125th Street in Harlem, Dapper Dan pioneered high-end streetwear in the 1980s, remixing classic luxury-brand logos into his own innovative, glamorous designs. But before he reinvented haute couture, he was a hungry boy with holes in his shoes, a teen who daringly gambled drug dealers out of their money, and a young man in a prison cell who found nourishment in books. In this remarkable memoir, he tells his full story for the first time.

Historia
The anti-busing riots of 1974 forever changed Southie, Boston's working-class Irish community, branding it as a violent, racist enclave. Michael Patrick MacDonald grew up in Southie's Old Colony housing project. He describes the way this world within a world felt to the troubled yet keenly gifted observer he was even as a child. But the threats - poverty, drugs, a shadowy gangster world - were real. All Souls is heartbreaking testimony to lives lost too early, and the story of how a place so filled with pain could still be "the best place in the world".

Historia
From the cow fields of Connecticut to the streets of San Francisco, Joe Clifford's Junkie Love traverses the lost highways of America, down the rocky roads of mental illness to the dead ends of addiction. Based on Clifford's own harrowing experience with drugs as a rock 'n' roll wannabe in the 1990s, the audiobook draws on the best of Kerouac and the Beats, injecting a heavy dose of pulp fiction as it threads a rollicking narrative through a doomed love triangle, lit up by the many strange characters he meets along the way.

For more than 40 years—whether writing for Richard Pryor and Saturday Night Live or performing stand-up to sold-out crowds around the country—Paul Mooney has been provocative, incisive...and absolutely hilarious. His comedy has always been indisputably real and raw, reflecting race issues in America, and this fascinating, fearless new memoir continues that unapologetically candid tradition.

The two-time best-selling author, comedian, actor, and radio icon explains the philosophy that has kept his existence boredom-free since the age of 13 - the love of risk. An avid sports better and frequent card player, Lange believes that the true gambler gets high not from winning, but from the chaotic unknown of betting itself. He recounts some of his favorite moments, many of which haven't involved money at all. In this candid and entertaining memoir, he looks back at the times he's wagered the intangible and priceless things in life: his health, his career, and his relationships.

Wow!!!
When Trick said he was a Thug he was most definitely not lying! I know this has to be made into a movie! Incredible true story!
At first I wanted the narration to be done by Trick himself because I love to hear his hilarious raw interviews, but the narrator was great and painted so many vivid pictures.
305 Miami-Dade County represent!
It’s clear that Trick Daddy is very smart, he really understands people and their motives, and has a lot of compassion. But don’t mess with him! Because even to this day he’ll still beat the dog shit outta you!!! Kimbo style! Lol!!!!!!!

Sheer, Brutal Poetry
Only a rapper could tell Trick Daddy's life story. And that rapper is the man himself. Magic City is the gripping manifesto of a man who was born to lose in the "United States of Amerikkka". Daddy spits unapologetically onto the page, touching on the history behind the systemic racism that stole opportunities, leaving only prostitution, welfare babies, drug trafficking and petty crime, for even the most brilliant. The flooding of Miami and other American cities with cocaine (crack, in particular) that fed the Prison Industrial Complex, now bulging at the seams with the Black and the poor. The brutality of what happens inside prison is related unflinchingly. Unreal horrors beyond my understanding of how humans can do these things to other humans... I know all of the history behind what created a Trick Daddy and the environment he grew up in: Chattel slavery, the Black Codes, and Jim Crow; night riders of the Klan and resentful White mobs that stole dreams through terrorism; the Slave Patrols that morphed into the modern day police; systemic racism and implicit bias. Trick only related to me from the inside, the feelings, impulses and forces that whirl people around on the edges of our so-called civilized society and makes them what they are. If you are ready for the truth I recommend this book. You may find you're not ready after all.
