the book ended so abruptly there was so much more need occurr, it was very disappointing.

Just ok

This was just ok. I thought the plot was a great idea I just didn’t like the characters.
Jeremy is an older man (in his 40’s) with children yet he couldn’t stand up to his mom?? So he must have multiple personalities because he switched opinions every two seconds- I don’t know how Grace put up with him. I also didn’t like that his wife had only passed away 4 months ago and he almost immediately falls for Grace…. Not cool.
I listened to this one and it was done with Virtual narration- not my favorite but I survived.

The AI voice was ok. I wish they would’ve used a male voice for the male chapters. That might’ve helped. Interesting story. I, apparently, have too much anger. I would’ve thrown the Mother out of the house after day 1!😀

Great cover art. I wanted to like it, but Inconsistent and overly dramatic

I went into this fairly hopeful. I had listened to another AI read book before this and it was pretty decent in terms of the performance. I honestly had pretty high hopes.

Unfortunately this book comes across as having been written by a tween or teen. The opening paragraph extols the deceased woman who was a “one woman show” who does it all for her family. Yet the husband fired her nanny.
One might suppose she had only hired the nanny after she had gotten sick, but it is unclear. Because it is unclear, the one-woman show with a nanny is a contradiction. That is two people -not one.

From there the characters alternately can’t stand each other or are falling head-over-heels depending upon the minute. These dramatic mood swings would be better suited for a novel set in junior high or high school rather than with adults who have supposedly grown in life and careers.

If the author reads this, I want to kindly say you had a good idea. You need to nurture and fully develop your characters more. People can change their minds, but the way your characters change theirs so swiftly shows little strength of character or integrity. If I came across an adult like this in real life, I would find a way to recommend much counseling, serious work on personal growth and perhaps medication.

When we are young we are all about the dramatic. Life tends to throw us enough curves without huge mood swings from one moment to the next. This relationship would likely become a codependent and unhealthy one in real life.

Please have an older beta-reader preview your work. They might help you make changes. If you reset this to a high school setting, the male protagonist lost his girlfriend/ tutor and has to raise his grades and improve behavior or be shipped to military school, the drama would be more in line with the maturity of characters at that age.

You had a great graphic designer for your cover art. Very appealing.

Are these characters supposed to be likable?

I haven't even finished this book and I feel like I'm vibrating with anger.

The father sucks. And in the beginning he openly admits he doesn't love his kids like his wife did.

The wife's body is barely cold and his considering how beautiful his nanny is. 🤮

And as someone that did lose their mom young, I really really hate that the nanny uses "your mother wouldn't want you to behave like that if she were here". It's really messed up to use the dead mother to control the kids.
