Resumen del Editor

Yawning, lip-licking, sneezing, even scratching are just a few of the 30-plus signals that dogs use to communicate with one another.

With On Talking Terms With Dogs, you can learn to recognize these signals and use them yourself to interact with your dog. Norwegian dog trainer and behaviorist Turid Rugaas has made it her life work to study canine social interaction. She coined the phrase calming signals to describe the social skills, sometimes referred to as body language, that dogs use to avoid conflict, invite play, and communicate a wide range of information to other dogs and also humans.

Every dog needs his human to listen to this book! Learn to identify situations that are stressful to your dog, so that you can resolve or avoid them. Rehabilitate a dog that has lost her ability to read or give calming signals. Become a keen observer of canine behavior at home, in the community, and among dogs to get better behavior and build a solid relationship.

The content was very informative and helpful! A few errors with the recording, but nothing that hindered the audiobook.

Excellent

Really fascinating & helpful description and discussion of the body language that dogs use to communicate with each other, and how to help them rediscover the calming signals they may have lost through adversity. I am so impressed by Rugaas' love and respect for all dogs.

Opening Doors to Understanding

What an enlightening and refreshing guide to better understanding how our dogs yearn to adapt to us and how special they are with how they socialize with other dogs and us. This revealed so much clarity for how my older pup, Bella, ran the show, in our home, in the yard, the dog park, etc. Dogs are amazing and this book is too.

"On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals" by T

"On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals" by Turid Rugaas is a must-read for any dog owner who wants to improve their relationship with their canine companion. Rugaas introduces the concept of calming signals, which are subtle but powerful behaviors that dogs use to communicate stress, anxiety, or a desire to de-escalate a situation.

The book is packed with practical information on how to identify and interpret calming signals, as well as how to use them to communicate effectively with your dog. Rugaas also provides guidance on how to help your dog learn to use calming signals more frequently, which can lead to a more relaxed and harmonious relationship.

One of the things I particularly appreciate about this book is that it is based on sound scientific research. Rugaas draws on her extensive experience as a dog trainer and behaviorist to provide clear and concise explanations of the concepts she presents. The book is also well-written and easy to read, making it accessible to dog owners of all levels of experience.

Overall, I highly recommend "On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals" to anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of canine behavior and improve their relationship with their dog. This book is a valuable resource that will help you to communicate more effectively with your dog and create a happier, healthier home for both of you.

Need to study this book and learn

I think this is a good foundation book and give guidance in the cues that dogs pick up on and what our actions relay to them. I need to listen and study this more. I will probably either get the ebook or paperback.
