Resumen del Editor

Professional heroes kill and loot deadly monsters every day, but Gorm Ingerson's latest quest will be anything but business as usual.

The adventuring industry drives the economy of Arth, a world much like our own but with more magic and fewer vowels. Monsters' hoards are claimed, bought by corporate interests, and sold off to plunder funds long before the Heroes' Guild actually kills the beasts. Of course, that's a terrible arrangement for the Shadowkin; orcs, goblins, kobolds, and their ilk must apply for to become Noncombatant Paper Carriers (or NPCs) to avoid being killed and looted by heroes.

When Gorm Ingerson, a Dwarven ex-hero with a checkered past, stands up for an undocumented goblin, he inadvertently singles himself out for recruitment by a prophet of the mad goddess to undertake a suicidal quest. But there's more to Gorm's new job than an insane prophecy: Powerful corporations and governments have shown an unusual interest in the quest. If his party of eccentric misfits can stop fighting each other long enough to recover the Elven Marbles, Gorm might be able to turn a bad deal into a golden opportunity.

Dwarves and orcs and elves and more, OH My!

Disclaimer: I am not a gamer, but I have a great appreciation for satire and fantasy. I am sure the gamers get more of the inside jokes. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this saga, and was disappointed that because the author has a separate work life, the sequel is not available. I read a lot of fantasy and science fiction, and listen to more. This was one the the more enjoyable. I didn't necessarily laugh out loud, but I did snicker often. I appreciated the gentle life lessons along the adventure road; the flaws of the Heroes; and the amoral economics of the Questing nation. Buy and listen, you won't regret it.

You will be unable to stop listening

This book is as addictive as it is funny.

You will love the sharp humor of the hero's and cry over the dark that is brutal big business. It is a story of misfits pulled often literally from the gutter.

P.S NEVER PISS OFF A DWARF

P.S.S With my thinks to a great righter for a wonderful story best of luck and looking forward to the next one. NO. B. S. Seigel

Great story well read

Orconomics is a fun and entertaining story through a fantasy world that plays with the usual building blocks of the genre. The narrator does a great job and makes the characters have....well character. Wasn't sure what to expect going into it but very happy I did. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Loved It.

The author writes with pure brilliance, the story is engaging, and I laughed out loud numerous times. Tons of detail went into the back story and world building for this series. I definitely recommend it.

One of the most entertain books I've listen to

Where does Orconomics: A Satire rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It sits in the top 5 no problem. I wasn't sure I would like it, but damn glad I took the plunge. The story and the narration were top notch. The Narrator is perfect for this book. He does all the different characters perfectly. Plus his goblin spot on Only draw back I could think of, (and I had to think deeply) is that the brief voice overs for the Orc parts are a bit distracting. Good thing they are only in like 2 minutes of the whole book.

What other book might you compare Orconomics: A Satire to and why?

I think it sits somewhere between Douglas Adams, and a typical D&D novel. Not as witty as Douglas but still well worth it.

What about Doug Tisdale, Jr.’s performance did you like?

His ShadowKin voices are perfect. He now sits in the top 3 of my all time favorite narrators.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Hell yea, but with life and all, I had to break it up.

Any additional comments?

Really, really looking forward to part II.

Will be buying book 2 when it comes out.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It is a great story for any friend of yours that is a gamer or understands nerd culture.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

Good Narrator. Clever story on how the gaming world generally rewards its players with money for killing monsters or bad guys. Then twisting that into a viable business program and entity for a book.

Great performance and great concept

This book is fantastic. The narration is done so well, ever character is portrayed wonderfully and given a perfect or near perfect voice. The world that is set up by this book is fascinating. The main character, Gorm, is relatable and the group is worth rooting for. I found myself so invested in this book and am so excited to read the next books!

A funny little jaunt through Arth

I wasn't too sure about this story at 1st but I am glad I got around to it. Had more funny moments than I would of thought but kept it in a good enough fantasy setting that is actually pretty neat. Weirdly enough I THINK I understand the "Economics" of this world but that in itself is funny.

Doug did pretty damn good job with this narration. Honestly forgot a couple of times that there was only 1 person doing the voices and look forward to potentiqlly hearing another story with him.

Loved it!!

I chose this book because it was recommended by Drew Hayes. He couldn’t have been more right - it was a fantastic listen and I'm going to get the second book as soon as I finish typing this review! If you’re a fan of Drew Hayes or LG Estrella, this book’s for you!! PS: the narration was perfect!!

Fun satire, great reading

This was a lot of fun. It was a little slow to start, but once the story got going it was great. Solid world-building, deliberate pacing, interesting characters, and quite funny satire. I almost never laugh aloud while reading, even with audiobooks and even when it is actually funny, but I chortled several times at the way the fantasy tropes were so well integrated with this capitalist world. It's a great idea and very well executed. In my opinion, good fantasy and science fiction uses the genre to tell a good story and explore something about people and the real world in a way that literary fiction could not. Orconomics is an excellent example of that

I was also very pleased with the voice actor reading it. It's read with such enthusiasm and apparent joy that I wouldn't have been surprised to learn that the author himself was reading it. Sure, the accents are imperfect, but it's not at all distracting. Plus, it's a fantasy world so you can suspend your disbelief and know that instead these are accurate accents for this world. All of the major characters are easily distinguished by their voice and well characterized. There is some vocal overlap among some more minor characters, but I was never confused about who was talking or pulled from the story.
