He hunts small game, geese and ducks. He forages the coastline for mussels, periwinkles and kelp. Like an old fox, he quietly drifts down woodland paths, scavenging the cedar-shingled vacation homes for food and supplies. He gathers herbs, apples, mushrooms, cattail roots and chestnuts.
His life is that of an isolated hermit, until he meets Halcyon. Her sustainable farm is growing crops and it provides sanctuary for the few survivors. Now they must deal with the scarcity and violence that follow the plague.
Supermarkets, hospitals and schools have been shut down by the pandemic and Mainers become tangled in an elemental struggle between stealing scarce resources and creating them. Robinson Caruso meets Stephen King’s The Stand.
The greatest danger is from the Militia, a heavily-armed group for whom a gallon of gasoline has replaced the US Dollar as currency.
It seems as if there is no safe place and that there is little hope. Then the shortwave radio picks up a broadcast from Cuba.
Author Terence Callery has lived and worked in Maine for most of his adult life. He operated an alpaca farm in Waldoboro and sold shellfish for Great Eastern Mussel Farms in Tenants Harbor. He sailed every gunk hole in Penobscot Bay. He shot skeet and trap at venues all over. While some of the places mentioned in this book are real, others are fictionalized composites of spots well known to the author.
Pandemic – Escape from Maine is his fourth book, and the first set in Maine. “Fantasy peppered with realistic detail, romance, suspense, satire and allegory.”

Decent, but
Decent storyline, but I struggle with the idea that former us military people would agree to go to a communist country… Pandemic or not. 🤷🏻 I would rather struggle to live in freedom, than willingly go to a dictatorship.
