Gripping and real

The story is gripping and feels so real. It's not an easy or pleasant book, but it's interesting, full of ideas and opinions and peopled with great characters.
I really liked the narrator too.

Ms Butler is my favorite sci-fi writer. I look forward to all her books on tape. The Parable of the Talents was great and much entertaining as usual.

spooky how accurate she was

what happens when a crazy man is elected president with the slogan "Make America Great." The author saw what was coming a decade ago and resisted.

life-altering

Excellent book! This and it's predecessor, Parable of the Sower, changed my life. I cannot provide a high enough recommendation fpr these 2 books. I just wish Ms. Butler would have written a 3rd.

Audio issues detract from the story

Amazing prescience of the author, whose strongman candidate for President of the fractured USA used the slogan “Make America Great Again” 18 years before the events of 2016.

However, two huge audio issues hurt the story. 1) the main narrator smacks her mouth before most, but not all, new lines. After an hour I began wincing at the end of each sentence in anticipatory dread of the smacking - made getting through all 10+ hours difficult. 2) the audio mixing has issues, with some segments almost stepping on one another and long pauses that go on just long enough to make it seem like the app has crashed again.

I recommend this book, but I can’t recommend this audio version. Go out and buy it in another format if you can.

good story

the transition between chapters was abrupt every time other than that it was great. i liked it

Great Story

I loved this book as well as the first. A gripping story that is not hard to fathom with the state of the workd today. A heartwrenching tale of love, loss, and perseverance.

loved it!!!!

i really loved this book. the trials and struggles of the characters were hard to tolerate because they were described so vividly and so intently that you felt some of their pain. i also enjoyed that there were different narrators for the different characters so you got a clear understanding that different people were talking or reading their own writings.

I love Butlers work

The parable series is yet another series by butler that can be read over and over and still keep the enthusiasm and appreciation for the journey experienced by Loren and her family and friends.

You must get this book

Powerful. Disruptive. Soul stirring. Once again Octavia Butler has left me disrupted, and grateful for it.
