Ultimately, Hong argues, the ideal of passionate work sustains a condition of cruel optimism in which passion is offered as the solution for the injustices of contemporary capitalism.

Now parsing the physical copy, I realize what this book needed is a reference to the notes and citations which are more readily available in text format. a PDF collection of the "notes to chapter ..." wouldn't be awful.
