Overall very helpful

I disagree with a lot of the parts about identity, but the book is still very useful for managing every day problems.

Awareness- Inclusive - Informative - Relevant - Relatable

I am a late diagnosed autistic with adhd. This book is a treasure for me and my spouse. Well into my fifties, my new understanding of my experience has changed my coping mechanisms significantly. This book allows me to gain clear insights into taking a personal inventory, become curious about what works, and respond to the world around me in a way that is supportive. I no longer feel completely isolated and this book has helped me understand myself more deeply.

A perfect how to guide for the neurodiverse & more.

This book is an excellent how to guide for those who are or know someone who is neurodiverse.

It can be extremely helpful for the person who discovers their neurodivergents in adulthood.

Helpful Info

For someone on the spectrum like me, this book was very helpful. It contained a lot of useful suggestions and ideas and was eminently practical.

I did have to drop a star because it would occasionally over-psychologize autism. And I could have done without the LGBTQ agenda which was unnecessarily forced on certain sections. It didn’t add anything to the flow of the book or provide any meaningful hands-on suggestions, so why include it? It detracted from an otherwise good book.

Overall, the book was quite good, but its shortcomings dropped it from being five stars.

Inclusive, respectful, and accessible.

Dr. Neff's book goes broad and deep. It's inclusive of a variety of experiences, while respectful of the multilayered complexity of any individual's experience.

I first read the Audible edition, and found it very accessible in audio form: not too list-y or diagram-filled to follow and absorb.

Nevertheless, I decided I wanted to have it on paper, also, to refer to and flip through. So I bought the hardcover edition. It's well-organized so it's easy to use as a handy reference, and small enough to keep on hand, in an emergency kit, say, so, double-handy!

Great tools for daily living. To begin to accept yourself, also feel more comfortable with who we are. There are many positive aspects to adult, high functioning autism. This book helps you focus on and introduce positive thought and behaviors in your personal and social life.

The most important type of healthcare is self-care!

I think this book would be most helpful for autistic people and helping them figure out how to take care of themselves. I think it gives a lot of interesting insights to consider. I don’t necessarily agree with everything that is mentioned, and I am autistic. However, it is wonderful to see an autistic psychologist talk about her experiences and give some perspective about what things can be helpful for autistic people for their mental health. Awesome book. Thank you Dr. Megan Anna Neff for taking the time to write this book! Have a fantastic day!

An absolute MUST read for AuDHD Adults

I’ve been recommending this book anyone I know who struggles with AuDHD. More books like this need to be written for the adult female community that were either look past or not diagnosed correctly.

Not a fan of some of this misinformation

First of all, there is no such thing as "leaky gut syndrome" and is not recognized by the medical industry. You should have recommended they see a dietician (the experts in nutrition health), and not recommend some of the other things you did.

Second of all, throughout the book, you use CBT techniques: guided imagery, diaphragmatic breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxtion, cognitive distortions, etc. Yet, you demonize CBT therapy claiming it doesn't work for Autistic people. I'm an Autistic CBT therapist, and I don't like when people make claims like that without any evidence to back it up. If there were bad professionals out there that didn't do the techniques right, and caused harm to clients, that doesn't mean that CBT did the harm, but the therapist didn't do it right.

I had really hoped this book would have been a great resource for all of my clients who are Autistic, but after these two points, I can't recommend a resource that gives misinformation like you did.
