Resumen del Editor

A picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes the story behind the picture is worth a thousand more.

2 CHILDREN FOR SALE.

In 1931, near Philadelphia, ambitious reporter Ellis Reed photographs the gut-wrenching sign posted beside a pair of siblings on a farmhouse porch. With the help of newspaper secretary Lily Palmer, Ellis writes an article to accompany the photo. Capturing the hardships of American families during the Great Depression, the feature story generates national attention and Ellis's career skyrockets.

But the piece also leads to consequences more devastating than he and Lily ever imagined - and it will risk everything they value to unravel the mystery and set things right.

Inspired by a newspaper photo that stunned readers throughout the country, Sold on a Monday is a powerful novel of ambition, redemption, love, and family.

Not what I anticipated...

The cover of this book is what drew me in. I was hoping it would be a riveting story like 'Before We Were Yours', given the summary and subject matter. However, it took 12 chapters for anything all that interesting to happen. If I hadn't chosen this to be our book of the month for our book club, I'm not sure I would have been all that interested in continuing with it. The story did eventually pick up, but there were some far fetched plot lines toward the end that didn't seem very realistic. Also, the audible file shows 44 chapters but ended at 39. This was also very misleading, as I was expecting more to the story. All in all the book was okay, but not one I would recommend to others. Especially given the really slow build and abrupt end. Rather disappointing, actually.

Wanted stories on children who persevered

Was hoping for a story focusing primarily on the children sold during the Great Depression. Instead, The main subjects of the reporters took center stage. A descent book for a long road trip . .

Unfortunately a true reflection on US history

I really enjoyed the store wish it was longer. The twists and turns were surprising.

Not horrible, not exceptional

This book was neither horrible nor exceptional - just meh. There were definitely interesting aspects, like the time period and setting. What I thought most intriguing was the child trafficking component, especially in light of our better awareness and movements against it.
If you want a book that reads easily and doesn't take much concentration, it fits the bill.
It's rare that I feel a movie would be, or is, better than a book, but this is one of those that I think I would enjoy more as a Hallmark movie.

The sample is misleading

It isn't the story the sample implies. It's about the reporters life. To top it the characters sound alike, it takes away from the story....very distracting!

Excellent Narration and Story Telling

Brian Hutchison does a really nice job at narrating this emotional story. His pauses and inflections are spot on! I enjoyed listening to him read to me as I followed along on my kindle!

Only OK

First, I did enjoy the book. It reminds me of a “beach book”, a book that is designed to lull you into an afternoon slumber. The plot is predictable and the language is somewhat sophomoric but it keeps you hooked on wondering what will happen next.

This is a beautiful book! Heart warming.

First of all let me qualify this qualify this statement. If you are into Blood and guts, explicit sex and fowl language I recommend you move on. This book will not satisfy that. HOWEVER, if you love decency, characters with integrity, courtesy, honest relationships,... if you want to cheer on good people as they try to accomplish what might seem impossible and if you want to be emotionally gripped while they try .. this book is for you... you will love it. I loved it!
