Entertaining at times, irritating at others

I liked the hook. The MC wasnt bad at first, but did start to get whiney when things got hard. It made sense for his character, but that doesn't mean it wasnt annoying. As expected he got a little better as the story progressed, and then he got over confident and bad things happen. Fairly typical, and that's fine, but the problem I have with this book is that the characters intelligence is inconsistent. Forgetting things, or making dumb choices at convenient plot points, or keeping a cool head in most situations, then letting their temper control them in convenient plot moving places. It's a little shoddy story telling. It's not just the MC either.

I enjoyed it enough that, I'll probably get the next book, but I'm not eagerly anticipating it or anything.

Nice premise dragged down by ease and sleaze

A gameplayer having a rough time is offered a chance at living on another world for a year, courtesy of SimpCo. Free house and three free meals each day, plus he gets paid. He goes for it.
I liked the start of this, and loved the cover. The set-up was pretty good, the promises of SimpCo sounded good.
The MC then finds out he'll be living in abject poverty. So he starts making friends of the impoverished. Unfortunately, the system doesn't like that.

First, the sleaze. After getting to the new world, an excessive amount of time is given over to bodily functions. All the important conversation happen while the character is going to the bathroom. Every single bowel movement is gone over as a plot point. About a third of the way into the novel, it becomes a Harem novel, the MC having sex with a long line of companions.

Next, the ease. Early on, the MC gets the ability to throw pebbles. Until then, he's having a rough time surviving. After that, most things are fairly easy for him. He gets a whole harem of helpers, and he regularly gains five levels at a time, in several cases just for having sex. When everything is easy, it's kinda boring.

Even so, I liked SimpCo as an evil antagonist. The dialog was mostly good. Various entertaining moments. I got to the end, which was abrupt, but not a cliffhanger. Will Collyer does a good job. I might give it another listen.

Dynamite!!! Grab the book to play the game... push start to continue....

Since I've really enjoyed Kos Play in the past I figured that I'd enjoy this book... I was correct 'cause the book was dynamite... and Will Collyer brought all the characters to life. In this story ARC Alex is offered a deal that he couldn't refuse, free room board while playing their computer game and receiving pay as well. He just has'ta leave earth behind and live on Gaia for the duration. This turned out to be a total bate and switch which was played on everyone who accepted the deal perpetrated by the creators of the game. Creators did it to increase their own fame and riches. As they were in reality broadcasting their own a reality game show. Alex is determined to not play their game, in fact he plans to break 'em.
Please grab the book to play the game... you won't be sorry...

Here's a quote that tickled me:

"I molded the throne to fit my body perfectly. For some reason that made it feel more comfortable than any foam that I’d ever encountered. I decided to call it Memory Stone."

Way too much time spent on bodily functions

Couldn't force myself to continue listening after the 2nd time the character defecated on himself. Great way to ruin what might have been a good story.

the story is ok a bit slow for my taste

the premise is good, the mc is not a total idiot, though he is a bit naive, I don't care for any of his party. I'm not saying it's a bad book but I started losing interest about the time he partied up. there were a lot of directions to go, that wasn't a favorite. the stars reflect it's ok. I did not want to inflate it too much as it is my opinion. if you enjoyed the system school, then you will probably like this one as well.
