Resumen del Editor

When Tina Louise was around six years old she was shunted off to boarding school by her parents, who were divorcing. Sunday is her moving memoir of growing up in an uncaring world of strangers. With fidelity to the thoughts and feelings and language of a young girl, Tina writes about her childhood fears, fistfights, friends, and fantasies. A blue stone, the color of her mother's eyes, becomes her link to the world that left her behind; a childhood prank has adult repercussions; Sunday, the day when parents visit, becomes a day of hope and dreams of reconciliation. A vivid evocation of the purity of heart, trust, and the magical belief that only children have, Sunday is a poetic expression of the power of memory and the bittersweet legacy of childhood.

A Brief Sensitive Account

This was a brief, sensitive and relatable account of a young girl's life in the aftermath of her parent's divorce. Louise provides a glimpse into her time under the care of adults whose versions of care varied. At a time when Loiuse should have been with her parents she instead was left to cope with longing, and too often poor treatment with no inquiries, or language about how such a young child was really doing in such circumstances. I enjoyed the narrative.

Written in a child’s perspective

Tina Louise had a very hard childhood spent in an institution because her parents could not take care of her because of their young age. She wrote this book to encourage people to be better parents and not start a family when they are too young or before they are ready to become parents. The things that happen in childhood stay with people even after they grow up. It’s important to mold these small children into the wonderful people we want them to be. It was a bit hard for me to listen to, though, because it was written from a child’s perspective. It felt like she was reading a children’s book to me. But this was her life, and it was interesting to see what shaped her and how she overcame these hardships.

heartbreaking and relatable

I found myself with tears falling throughout the telling of this story. having had some esrly childhood trauma myself, i KNOW the scars and inner hurts that are left behind. i think many will ifentify with this book.
The author TRULY bares her soul with these tales of abandonment and abuse as a result of decisions made by a young mom who was beyond her abilities. Little "tina" had no safe space, (except maybe hiding in the crawlspace under the stairs), no physical safety, nothing dependable, no unconditional love... the "boarding school" was the stuff of nightmares.
it's amazing that Tina took those experiences and found a way to process them somehow..
Her mission is that children should feel safe, loved and valued, and the HOPE is that no child is born to parents who are not ready for the most important job of their lives which is the raising of a human child.
I am certain the author has opened the eyes and hearts of many.

Memories of the child within

I was touched by this memoir. I felt such compassion for her and the other children living as she did. The only negative is that it stopped to soon. I was left wanting to know more about her childhood.

The yearning of wanting a stable home.

Thank you Ms. Louise, for sharing this very personal story with us. It’s important that these stories be told, so that others who have had similar experiences during childhood can know they are not alone. I appreciate your courage in being vulnerable, and letting us know more about you.
