Resumen del Editor

Dr. Dorothy Adamson Holley is a Developmental Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, author, recording artist, percussionist, songwriter, vocalist, harmonicist, dancer, and Healer through Music. She has over 30 years of experience in treating clients who do not respond well to traditional treatment. Using nontraditional creative practices to heal her own trauma, Dr. Adamson Holley offers insights and creative approaches to help clinicians work more effectively with trauma survivors. Creative practices are considered outside of the mainstream of evidence-based practices; yet they offer clients opportunities to access and express traumatic memories in safe, nonthreatening ways.

Talk therapy alone is not enough. Western psychological models of treatment are steeped in the medical model that demands evidence-based practices and denies those creative, healing practices that have existed for centuries to maintain mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual health. Dr. Adamson Holley seeks to push the boundaries of our limited perceptions of treatment and healing.

The creative practices described in this audiobook can be used to help trauma survivors get unstuck. They offer help when talk therapy falls short. And they are not only for trauma survivors. These creative practices are helpful for anyone who seeks healing.

This audiobook covers key concepts and principles that are essential for working with trauma survivors. It offers no-cost and low-cost, effective healing practices that can be implemented immediately. It is rich with examples from the author's personal and professional life. If you are a clinician whose clients are stuck in talk therapy, this audiobook will be a useful resource.

Anyone can read this book! Great read for professionals, and lay people I like

Dr. Holly does a beautiful job sharing her professional and personal stories in a heartwarming and refreshing way. Everyone is talking about trauma these days and future people are talking about ways to heal trauma.

There is healing power in the arts and in prayer and in nature and in stillness. This was a great reminder that music and dance and drumming are all part of God’s wonderful creation. Thank you Dorothy for all the work it took to put this book together. I’ve never met, but I feel like you’ve allowed us to cleanse into your soul and learn from you. Many blessings!

Creative Therapeutic Treatment Options

This is a great book not only for talk therapists/counselors, but also for those currently/previously in talk therapy, those looking for other therapeutic options in addition to their talk therapy sessions, and those who are assisting their loved ones through treatment. The listed suggestions are important aspects of many people's current lives, however, we don't necessarily think about the therapeutic aspects that they bring nor why we enjoy them as much as we do. I already enjoy "Vitamin N" - nature, painting, and dancing to music, so when I'm going through tough times, it seems that these are definitely great ways to calm me down in stressful situations.

I'm looking forward to adding some of these into my daily life, as well as, the lives of my children. I will be suggesting this book to others!
