Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Resumen del Editor
The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.
Yet there is light in the darkness. Tatiana meets Alexander, a brave young officer in the Red Army. Strong and self-confident yet guarding a mysterious and troubled past, he is drawn to Tatiana - and she to him. Starvation, desperation, and fear soon grip their city during the terrible winter of the merciless German siege. Tatiana and Alexander's impossible love threatens to tear the Metanova family apart and expose the dangerous secret Alexander so carefully protects - a secret as devastating as the war itself - as the lovers are swept up in the brutal tides that will change the world and their lives forever.

Stephen 'Pista' Nasser was 13 years old when the Nazis whisked him and his family away from their home in Hungary to Auschwitz. His memories of that terrifying experience are still vivid, and his love for his brother Andris still brings a husky tone to his voice when he remembers the terrible ordeal they endured together. Stephen's account of the Holocaust, told in the refreshingly direct and optimistic language of a young boy, will help every listener to understand that the Holocaust was real.

Historia
In this sweeping and powerful epic the journey begins in the "terrible beauty" of Northern Ireland during a time when conflict reigns and no one is spared from tragedy and sorrow, the time known as The Troubles. It is the spring of 1968 in Belfast and James Kirkpatrick has just lost his father under suspicious circumstances, Casey Riordan is released from prison after five years and Pamela O'Flaherty has crossed an ocean and a lifetime of memories to find the man she fell in love with as a little girl. All three lives are on a collision course with each other against the backdrop of the burgeoning civil rights movement and a nation on the brink of revolution. They come from disparate backgrounds - Jamie a wealthy aristocrat whose life is like an imperfect but multi-faceted jewel-brilliant, flawed and with a glitter that is designed to distract the observer. Casey, a card-carrying member of the Irish Republican Army, who must face the fact that five years away has left him a stranger, a misfit in his own neighborhood where not everyone is sympathetic to a convicted rebel. Pamela, who has come to Ireland in search of a memory and a man who may not have existed in the first place.

New York, 1960: For Benny Lament, music is his entire life. With his father’s deep ties to the mob, the Bronx piano man has learned that love and family can get you in trouble. So he keeps to himself, writing songs for other musicians, avoiding the spotlight…until the night his father brings him to see Esther Mine sing. Esther is a petite powerhouse with a gorgeous voice. And when Benny writes a hit song and performs it with her, their collaboration thrusts the duo onto the national stage…and stirs up old issues and new scrutiny that the mob--and Benny--would rather avoid.

I simply don't have enough words for how wonderful this story was. What a STORY! I am not a romance novel kind of reader but the reviews on this story really made me want to see what the hype was all about. The story was phenomenal. Truly a beautifully, heart-wrenching story about love, loss, family, war, growing up and overcoming all things for those that mean most.
I was about 10 hours into the book and decided to google it to see what people outside of Audible reviewers thought. I was surprised that it was considered a "deeply erotic book" by one website. But then I got to it. And yup, they were right. I could have done without all the sex but once you get through about two hours of the book, it's right back into the wonderful story. I wouldn't let that keep you from reading this beautiful story. The story is just THAT good.
Being the longest book I've listened to before, I thought thirty hours would go on forever. But I found myself with 10 hours, 3 hours, 1 hour, 5 minutes left and it simply not being enough story left. I needed more! Any chance I got to listen, I did. Engrossing tale. Now I'm left not sure what to do without Tatiana and Alexander in my ears.
I am so sad the next two books have not made it to audiobook yet. This book does leave you grasping for more so be prepared to jump into the next book after finishing this one.
What a wonderful surprise this book was. I cannot wait to listen to it again.

You have to read this book
The first fifteen minutes I didn’t know if I wanted to keep listening but I gave it another try. Since then, it’s become one of my favored books ever! The detail, characters, plot, and everything else is amazing.

A Remarkable Historical Romance
The story isn't new to me, I loved it first in paper years ago
The choices of the narrator were often odd to me. He gave everybody in this very Russian story varied accents from the UK. Because the male lead character spent his childhood in America his accent sounded odd to the Russians...so in contrast to their slightly Russian-toned, British accents, he gave that character one that sounded somewhat Scottish. This kind of threw me, thus the 3 on the narration. Also, given that this is very much a story about a Russian GIRL, I might have preferred a female actor, but oh well, might just be me being female...
I did really enjoy this read/listen. Once I got used to the voices, I found the performance emotionally engaging. Overall a good job, I'd recommend it to lovers of hidtorical fiction...taught me about a slice of Russian history I had little knowledge of.
