Resumen del Editor

The tide turns.

Britannia is finally free from Carthaginian rule. Now, it is up to Ky, a test pilot from the far future and current Consul of the new Britannic Empire, to take the fight to the Carthaginian Empire. The continent, with its vast resources and manpower, awaits. However, it takes more than new weapons to turn an ancient army based around heavy infantry into one out of the Napoleonic era.

New weapons, new tools, and new tactics are ready to take Britannia into the industrial revolution if only they can survive long enough to master them.

A MAGNIFICENT WORK IN SCIENCE FICTION

This production represents an original and unique Alternate History Science Fiction plot, one of the best I have ever read/listened to... Thus, I highly recommend it to most sci-fi fans.

Consistently good

Fun idea with good writing and a well paced plot that seems to be written with a concrete ending in mind.

Another great chapter

Once again I can’t help but complain about the narrator. Rereading lines of this book, it’s just inexcusable. You’d think someone would’ve said something to the guy by now.

Story was great though, still has me riveted and holding my breath for more. Book 5 can’t come soon enough.

Perhaps the best in the series so far

This series falls in a “micro genre” sweet spot for me, with some combination of hard science fiction, pseudo time travel, military strategy, action, interesting characters and a compelling plot. Unfortunately good entries in this micro genre are few. The Destiny’s Crucible series is by far the best I’ve found in this micro genre, but this Imperium series leads the rest of the pack. I really enjoy the details of figuring out how to create new technology and then introducing it and this series does a compelling job of it. Some readers find this tedious, but I’m a big fan. The military strategy and battles are well done and engaging. Crucially, the characters are interesting, and I’m eager to see what happens next. After the third book in this series I debated whether I wanted to continue, but I’m glad I did. I think this book might be the best in the series so far and I’m disappointed to have to wait for the next audiobook to be released.

The narrator is excellent. I am in awe of the number of unique character voices he creates, the consistency of each, and the depth added by his skillful narration. When there are more than a handful of characters, it’s unusual to be able to identify which character is speaking just from the narrator’s voice, but I was able to determine the speaker fairly consistently. Thank you Kevin Kemp! Very impressive!

World Building and Plot saves this series from Too Much Dialogue

As these books have gone on, I’ve both loved each new chapter of Kai’s story, and dreaded the long, overly complicated conversations… example: an entire chapter dedicated to the discussion of fields of enriched soil for use in the creation of gunpowder. Yikes.
This series needs more intrigue, assassination attempts, battles, death, and even political maneuvering by members of the Roman Senate. No more discussion about the detailed process of creating paper.
