Resumen del Editor

Only Omega can free humanity.

When the Ornu came, they took Earth in a single night. Humanity never stood a chance. Now, they force us to crew their ships and fight their wars for them. They hold Earth hostage, and if we refuse to do their bidding, they’ll lay waste to our precious blue marble. Slaughtering the billions who live there.

But when Captain Bill Henderson is sent to claim a small moon for his masters, he finds something they never accounted for. An ancient warship – a behemoth abandoned for millennia by a species that reached its peak at the dawn of the universe.

Could this ship of ages be exactly what humanity needs to cast off the shackles of their oppressors? Find out in Book 1 of Starship Omega, an engrossing new military sci fi saga from bestselling authors Scott Bartlett and Joshua James.

About the Creator

Scott Bartlett writes books from inside a mech, which is inside the hangar bay of a light armored cruiser stationed just past Jupiter.
Certain parts of the last sentence may not be completely true. Here are some more believable statements:
Scott was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland–the easternmost province of Canada. During his decade-long journey to become a full-time author, he supported himself by working an assortment of jobs…salmon hatchery technician, grocery clerk, youth care worker, ghostwriter, research assistant, pita maker, and freelance editor.
In 2014, he succeeded in becoming a full-time novelist, and he’s been writing science fiction at light speed ever since.

About the Creator

Joshua James followed an unusual path to arrive here (i.e. writing in third person about himself in an author biography). He has worked as both an accountant and a graphic artist. Before either of those pursuits, he submitted a string of short stories to Analog, Asimov's, F&SF and Interzone. He even got a couple published. But finding an agent and writing on spec dampened his enthusiasm. Still, his childhood love for Robotech and ST:TNG meant he could never truly ignore his geek side (and also meant he wrote Star Trek/Robotech crossover fan fiction—yes, that's a thing). He has written or co-written more than 50 novels. They all involve spaceships. Joshua lives outside Washington, D.C., with his family.

About the Performer

Mark Boyett has narrated 325 titles and counting in every genre, garnering an Audie Award for In Harm’s Way by Doug Stanton and an Earphones Awards for 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami.
He’s the voice of multiple hit sci-fi series including Star Force and Undying Mercenaries by B.V. Larson, The Black Fleet Trilogy by Joshua Dalzelle, and Mech Wars by Scott Bartlett.

Unbearable

I don't know what kind of masochist you need to be to enjoy a book like this, but not even the payoff was enough of a salve to mitigate this disaster.

Humanity has been beaten down so much that they're no better than dogs. It's like reading a book where the entire cast are from North Korea, except these humans aren't indoctrinated. They chaffe but they still bow and grovel to hold onto these garbage lives as slaves, like cockroaches just hoping to live for the sake of living.

Even when things inevitably turn in their favour, I felt nothing. They didn't grab victory with their own hands, it was given to them. I hold no respect for these miserable sacks.

That's all remarkably negative, and I'm still rating it a 3. My gripes, save for the lack of focus and ridiculous overabundance on multiple POVs that add nothing, are all personal preference.

And my preference is that I despised this.

A wild and fun ride.

I've read many of Scott's novels and this one ranks up there as one of the best. I'm not familiar with Joshua James, but I couldn't tell the difference between who wrote what part. I read the novel when I received it for backing the Kickstarter. I enjoyed it so much that I bought the audiobook so I would have something to listen to during my deliveries. Mark is also one of my favorite narrators. When you have him as a narrator, you know it is going to be top notch.

Fun story!

This story was very cool. I loved how thoughtful that Captain Anderson is about not taking out the enemy fleet due to being thoughtful on the humans!

Another reviewer HATED that there were many pov chapters. I don’t know, I thought that was normal in the science fiction genre and didn’t see anything about it. It helps when you are dealing galaxy wide conflicts. This was another great entry by Scott, who always does a wonderful job of making me care about the characters!

An Ancient Warship, A New Dawn: 'The Forever Ship' Redefines Military Sci-Fi

"The Forever Ship" by Scott Bartlett and Joshua James is an absolute gem in the world of military science fiction. From the very first page, this book grabs hold of you and doesn't let go. The authors have masterfully created a gripping narrative that weaves together elements of adventure, suspense, and profound human resilience.

The story begins with a chilling premise: humanity, under the brutal control of the alien Ornu, is forced to fight wars on behalf of their oppressors. The fate of Earth hangs in the balance, with the Ornu threatening to annihilate our home planet if we don't comply. Captain Bill Henderson, a compelling and relatable protagonist, finds himself in the midst of this dire situation. His mission to claim a small moon for the Ornu takes an unexpected turn when he discovers an ancient warship, Omega, abandoned for millennia.

This ship, with its advanced technology and enigmatic AI, represents a glimmer of hope for humanity. The authors expertly build tension and excitement as Henderson and his crew uncover the ship's secrets and begin to see a path to freedom. The character development is superb, and you can't help but root for Henderson and his ragtag team as they take on the seemingly invincible Ornu.

The pacing of is perfect, with each chapter ending on a note that makes it impossible to put the book down. The descriptions of space battles are vivid and thrilling, making you feel as if you're right there in the cockpit with Henderson. The authors' ability to blend high-stakes action with moments of introspection and emotion is truly commendable.

What sets this book apart is its underlying message of hope and resilience. Despite the overwhelming odds, the human spirit's indomitable will to fight for freedom shines through. It's a powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is always a way to resist and reclaim our destiny.

"The Forever Ship " is a must-read for any fan of space opera and military sci-fi. Bartlett and James have crafted a story that not only entertains but also inspires. I eagerly await the next installment in this series, confident that it will continue to deliver the same pulse-pounding excitement and thoughtful storytelling. Don't miss out on this phenomenal start to what promises to be an epic saga!

The Primevals

The Primevals left a lot of their advanced tech around the galaxy after they left. The Ornu, who are masters of many races including humans capture and use this tech to make themselves stronger and increase their hold over their many vassal species. However, Capt Bill Henderson and his crew of the Ornu ship Tennyson discover the Primeval Warship Omega! With Omega’s help Bill, Bena Chakravarti, his XO and Al Stone and his Marine detachment decide to go rogue and defy the Ornu! This is a really exciting start to this series with rich characters, and exciting story arc and fast action!! I can’t wait for more, Scott and Joshua have created a marvelous universe in which to spin this tale. Get this book, you’ll be glad you did

Enjoying the listen!

So right up-front, I'm still listening to this one. I'm enjoying the story thus far. The story thus far is Quality Sci-Fi and a great narrator. I like how the story is told through the eyes of multiple characters. The narrator uses a number of accents, voice pitches, and vocal stylings to represent different characters.

I'll update with a more comprehensive review when I've finished the listen.
