The Apostle John referred to himself as "the Disciple Whom Jesus Loved". That is because he was the best friend of the Lord. John knew so much about the love of God and the power of that love. He wanted us to experience it as well.

John wished to convince the Jews that the historical Jesus was the Christ, the Jewish Messiah, the Savior of mankind.

Less about John than title lead to believe
As John is my most loved disciple, I hoped the author had somehow gathered more details about him particularly. The spoken delivery, in truth, held many mispronunciations and misinflections in story delivery. There are many very moving passages delivered statically such as Jesus and Mary outside the tomb. It makes a difference. Not expecting acting, just feeling.
