Epic

only half way through, but this is so well written! all 3 character's pov are intriguing. tension is managed so well, it propels from one chapter to another.

narration is excellent. helped by the writing, each character has a distinct voice: easily distinguishable without remembering names.


noticed a small error at the end of chapter 44 where the last word is cut off abruptly. took me out of the story for a second while I checked to make sure it hasn't skipped ahead somehow.

wow just amazing

I love the story of this book. I feel it is a lot lot stronger than book 1 and an epic start to a new chapter. For anyone who has read the first trilogy this is a no brainer. For others I will say only this. epic scale, deep characters and an immersive world with magic on a slow burn.

So good.

This is the best fantasy book I’ve read in decades. All of the storylines are excellent and the characters are amazing we’ll written.

awesome book! amazing voicework

At first I was a little bored, and some of the vulgar dialogue around the first protagonist Gwenna Sharp is initially off putting.
But like a good fantasy book the story, characters and places draw you in and I could not stop listening/reading.
I really enjoyed the different VAs for the different character arcs, it was a bit jarring at first but each actor is strongly unique and very well done.

One hell of a rollercoaster

I have enjoyed what was the Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne to the everything in the masterpiece that was Skullsworn... So stepping into this new series of books by Staveley, I can very much say I was excited yet was completely unprepared for what a rollercoaster of emotions this book gave me. the book is more akin to Chronicles as it comes from three POV's, but where I thought the first series had some misteps on the changing of perspectives. This book takes what I would say made Skullsworn so good with POV storytelling and growth and managed to give it to all three perspective characters. And when I say it was a rollercoaster. Boy, I meant it. Many times in the book, I felt like I was on the edge of my seat to anger, to fear, to shedding a damn tear. My emotions were all over the place here, and I have to say, I would place this amongst Skullsworn as one of the best pieces of fantasy literature I have read. Thank you, Brian, for continuing the story, and I can't wait for the other books in the series.

Great return to the world

It really seemed like the author covered most everything in the previous trilogy, but this book does a great job of creating new characters & keeping a few of the old; somehow he's avoided the "marvel problem" where the stakes get so high that sequels aren't possible -- this story doesn't feel superfluous & makes sense in the world of the original trilogy. Loved it... very much enjoyed & looking forward to the next book!!

Noticeable improvement in just about every regard.

I absolutely love this book. the voice actors were perfect. be careful because it does get quite gory.

loved it, however, this book was a bit more graphic than his other. More graphic than it needed to be. in my opinion. but I still loved the story.

Series keeps getting better and better!

great series! Gwena was amazing. i want to get the book now and get the story again.
