Acerca de esta escucha

Finding people who don't want to be found is a young man's game. But when a beautiful celebrity begs semi-retired Walter Sherman to locate her nephew, he can't refuse. In his search for Harry Levine, Walter soon discovers that others are desperate to find him and willing to kill for what he has: the written confession by the mastermind behind the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Among those clamoring for the confession are the Kennedy family, renegade Russians seeking the Czar's gold, and a powerful man with connections to the CIA. Finding Harry is one thing, but hiding him from professional killers pushes Walter's aging skills to the limit. It's a wild chase across Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean in Richard Greener's heart-stopping thriller that offers an unexpected twist on existing JFK conspiracy theories.

because of the Finder...

watched the Finder TV show and loved it. while the show has taken many artistic liberties in deviating from the books, the books are decent

I would not recommend reading the Lacey Confession without the Knowland Retribution, but it can be done.

I will listen the stories again and I think you will find the dramatization performed expertly. the story is good but not my typical style and therefore my lower rating. too bad this is the end of the Locator series.

Always a surprise

Greener is so detail oriented that you think you are going to be lost or bored and then he pulls the right thread to tighten it and you get in close and you can't stop listening. Now that is skill!

Listen to "The Knowland Retribution" first.

You will enjoy "The Lacey Confession" a lot more if you listen to its prequel, "The Knowland Retribution," first. Our author, Richard Greener, does a good job filling in the backstory, for those who haven't read his previous work; but he creates such complex, intricate plots and characters that a brief summary must leave out a lot of the richness. This time out, our hero ??? Walter Sherman, A.K.A. "The Locator" ??? succumbs, against his better judgement, to the pleas of a beautiful woman; and tumbles into a web of intrigue and deception. Like all good authors, Mr. Greener writes about what he knows ??? and he knows a lot: not just about current events, history, politics, and geography, but also ??? as a heart-transplant recipient ??? about having a heart attack. Our 60-year-old protagonist, Walter Sherman, suffers one in the midst of his quest; and Greener, without subjecting us to the gory details, takes us through Sherman's collapse and subsequent recovery from triple-bypass surgery. Unlike many other indestructible thriller heros, Walter Sherman ??? despite his toughness and his wily street-smarts ??? has a vulnerable heart, in both the metaphorical sense and the biological sense. Sherman patronizes a neighborhood bar called "Billy Smith's" on the tiny Virgin Island of St. John. Like in Donald Westlake's Dortmunder series, the bar ??? along with its "regulars" ??? provides an anchor, touchstone, comic relief, and pause-for-breath in the story. We come to love the "regulars," and long to visit the island. I hope that Mr. Greener's new heart will allow him to continue providing us with more adventures of The Locator; and, as far as I'm concerned, Marc Vietor can go on narrating them.

Stupidly wordy for no good reason

Really irritating. This book has the feel of an assignment with a mandatory word count; so much unnecessary and in the way of a decent story.

Back stories ad infinitum

Since all the major characters in this book are paragons of their type, the author finds it necessary to explain at length and in detail how each attained such unparalleled mastery. An infallible finder of lost people and items, an assassin capable of reaching and eliminating even the most closely guarded target, a cold blooded and calculating spy master with access to every secret, a world renowned sex goddess, an intimate friend and fixer for the Kennedy clan--each is given a detailed back story in an attempt to prepare us for their exploits in the current narrative. Of course with so much biography to cover, the result is a series of two dimensional CV's which interrupt the flow and coherence of the central story without adding any real depth. In the end I did not believe or care about any of it. I just wanted it to be over, and at last it was.

I suggest you not waste a credit. And if you would like to listen to a superbly crafted thriller full of real human beings and with a back story which really works, I recommend The Queen of Patpong, by Tim Hallinan.

Possibly the most boring book I have ever heard

I fell asleep a lot. I didn't even both to "rewind" and pick up what I had missed because I just couldn't care. Maybe I was tired. Maybe it was the soothing professional reader voice of the narrator. But...the excruciatingly boring rendition of the background history, or faux history used to explain the rather complicated plot was sooooooo snooooooozzzzzzzzzy. As well, it felt like Walter was still wandering through this story in post-coital tristesse/distress over his lost love interest Isobel in The Knowland Retribution, without connecting believably with the details in this tale. It was sort of like a zipper with a few missing teeth...some of it caught and fit together and some didn't. I do like the idea of a character who can locate anything, and enjoyed a previous book as a listen, and the inclusion of the characters in a Bones episode, but...this one disappointed. I may give it another chance the next time I am putting Adirondak chairs together, but falling asleep while using a sander or a drill isn't a good idea.

2 points less than mediocre

A B grade movie plot. Really pointless. Poorly crafted charatcters. A silly plot. Starts with a promising note but dwindels down to a very silly story.
