Resumen del Editor

A plague has fallen across the land. Slaughter fills the streets. All seems lost.

After Great Britain is hit by a devastating epidemic, four old friends must cross the war-torn country to get home to their families. But in order to reach their loved ones, they must journey through towns, villages and countryside teeming with the monstrous Infected - mutated people whose only desires are to infect and feed.

Run and hide. Seek shelter. Pray for salvation. The last plague is here.

A good story

This is more your typical zombie book. There are levels and details that are not for the faint of heart, definitely PH-18. I had to speed up to 1.7 because the show suppressing narrator had me losing focus and getting sleepy.

He says the world a lot.

Dead Space Necromorphs land on earth, brutal.

An incredible experience from start to finish. A both cruel and bleak harrowing journey across cosmic horror infested Britain. It is a must read apocalyptic tome.

A solid virus horror

Very much enjoyed the gruesome action and desperate situations we find our survivors in. The voice is a bit slow at first but once you get used to him it’s fine

Zombie variant horror tale

Rich Hawkins’ The Last Plague is an atypical zombie tale. Four men on a weekend bachelor party awake the next morning to find a strange new world. Having been isolated, as they wander back towards civilization, they slowly piece together that something is not right. They become separated from one individual trying to help a young girl. Slowly, they come to realize that some sort of infection is transforming people into zombie-like monsters with horrible disfigurements. All the while, they are trying to make their way back to their families. Along the way, in addition to the monsters, they encounter a few humans behaving in a subhuman manner.

Hawkins offers a slow burn that leaves the reader as much in the dark as the main characters in the early going. Each character responds a bit differently with all gradually arriving at the conclusion that this will not be transient. Beyond the terror of the monsters themselves, there’s also the fear of be-coming one of the monsters if infected. While it’s unclear if this is an end of the world event, it certainly appears to be the end of Great Britain.

The narration is well done with solid character distinction that makes the friends conversations understandable. Pacing is just right.

Excellent writing and narration

Wonderfully bleak and awful story with an atmosphere like McCarthy's The Road, but with alien-mutants. The story kept my attention throughout, which is rare. I do hope Rich Hawkins plans to re-release the remaining books in this series for Audible / Kindle (The Last Outpost and The Last Soldier).

Good Story…questionable narration

This was a very good story, well developed, and graphic in disturbing yet good ways. The characters were strong and well developed, the pace of the story was perfect. My only issue was with the narration. Unless it was dialogue, each line was delivered as a dull statement, making it difficult to listen at times. The narrator‘s voice was a mixture of spooky and sensual, which made the story slightly more disturbing to listen to. But still I listened, although a different narrator would have given this story a five star rating for me. I have downloaded the next book in the series though and will listen. It is a good story, and I want to know what happens next!

Nothing held back

This is probably the darkest apocalyptic book Ive listened to or read. There are no taboos or walls the author was afraid to break. And because of this and the excellent writing and story telling make this book series my top 10 list.

The author reads a little slow and almost dreary sounding but it’s perfect for this book! It sets the mood for the series and reminds readers how utterly hopeless things are for the characters just trying to survive in world no longer theirs.

No spoilers but this isnt a They all lived happily ever after book. At times I felt my self wanting to hug my daughter and wife…thats how good this book series is.
