Resumen del Editor

Brother Cadfael sets out to visit the Saint Giles leper colony outside Shrewsbury, knowing that a grand wedding is due to take place at the Abbey of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. As he arrives at Saint Giles, the nuptial party passes the colony's gates. He sees the fragile bride, looking like a prisoner between her two stern guardians, and the groom, an arrogant, fleshy aristocrat old enough to be her grandfather. With his usual astuteness he suspects that this union may be more damned than blessed.

He is horrifically proved right when a savage murder disrupts the May-December marriage leaving Brother Cadfael with a dark and terrible mystery to solve. For the key to the killing - and a secret - are hidden among the lepers of Saint Giles, and Brother Cadfael's skills must diagnose a sickness, not of the body, but of a twisted soul.

Investigate another medieval mystery with Brother Cadfael.

Fine addition to the series

First discovered ellis peters in the form a paperback sitting in a pile in one of the temporary Barracks in Grafenwohr Germany…. Soldiers would fly in from the states for a temporary training session and often brook a few books for the trip, and most would leave them behind. The rule was leave two books, take one
Anyway it was one of the middle books in the series but the concept gripped me so intook it, just to have a physical model to try and find the other books….
Patrick tull does an excellent job of imitating the vocal Style of Sir Derrick Jacobi …
I do have one issue and that is the background noise…..
Was this recording originally made for the stereo to mono audio cassettes? For those who dont remember to reduce the cost of audiobooks they would double record on the cassettes, once with the left channel and then once with the right channel …. Unfortunately it was next to impossible to completely suppress the one channel so you get a mumble whisper in the background

The best recording

In my opinion this is the best recording of this splendid mystery. I would like to think Patrick Tull for rendering Edith Pargeter’s fine authorial work in a voice that sounds authentically medieval

One of Brother Cadfael’s most touching and exciting mysteries

As in most Brother Cadfael ‘s books there are the star crossed young lovers; the evil guardians, and overbearing proud followers of King Stephen:all set in a Benedictine Abbey, the surrounding area, and in the sad setting of a small Leper colony.. Leprosy, probably brought back from the First Crusade, was one of the most feared diseases of the Middle Ages and lepers were shunned and left to the Monks of various religious orders to care for. Against this background is played out a dramatic story of love, jealousy and murder: all discovered and resolved to the happiness of the truthful characters and the villains. But who is who? To discover this, the reader must carefully follow several plots and a touching moment of Cadfael’s past as he Joins the Great First Crusade. One of the best of the series and well. read.

Quality is so-so

I have no complaints about the story or performance at all. They're fabulous, as usual. However, I found the quality of the recording to be sketchy. There were several times when the sound got muffled and muted, which was annoying. It would be much better if we got top notch quality with our purchase.

Audible Version Won't Work with Kindle!

The reason for my giving a low rating to this book is because this is the 5th Audible book in this wonderful series where the Audible doesn't match with the Kindle written version. I couldn't read along as I like on my Kindle Fire. The recording would stop everytime I attempted to read.. So now I will check my library or do without the Audible. The reader was excellent; I just couldn't follow along.

Great story - well read

A good yarn that kept me interested throughout. At first I thought the narration was a bit slow, but after a while, I really liked it. The narrator does a great job of conveying the feeling of the novel.

I've enjoyed several Br. Cadfael books. Strongly recommended.

Such A Great Series

Would you consider the audio edition of The Leper of St. Giles to be better than the print version?

Hmm? Tough question. Considering all aspects, I would call it a draw, for each, were enjoyable in their own unique way.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, I suspected the culprit early in the story but he only slipped up near the ending and it wasn't revealed until later but it was an "ahh, haa!" moment for me.

Which character – as performed by Patrick Tull – was your favorite?

As always, he is the voice of Brother Cadfael.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The last scene between Brother Cadfael and the old leper was so well written and so narrated that I was almost in tears. Actually, I read it first and then went to audible and listened. The audible did have me in tears.

Any additional comments?

I am not tired of this wonderful series and look forward to the next chronical.

Story and Narration superb

Another great tale by Ellis Peters of Brother Cadfael. These stories have become as comforting as a cup of tea and good chair. I delight in sitting and listening to Patrick Tull’e warm voice ebb and flow with the emotions of the plot.
