Very powerful story of family, love and loss

So many details of life at home and in the field of the men and women and some children during the Civil War. Interesting insite to what mattered to families of different skin colors, social and economic groups and religious heritage.

Absolutely stunning!

Fantastically written and performed, a deeply sad and disturbing story is made into something beautifully hopeful!

This audible book is well worth a credit. It was well written and beautifully performed by the narrator. I love a book based on history that ends up teaching me things I had never learned before.

The story of the Civil War that you didn’t know you needed to learn

This fictional story is told from the prospective of a Jewish New York couple and a slave couple of Louisiana. The authors used real stories of their family history to create this beautiful story. It weaves the couples lives together and gives some of the feeling what it was like to be these two minorities fighting in and living in the Civil War time. It is an amazing book.

Interesting characters and Civil War Perspective

The book had great characters to root for along with introducing me to the Civil War from the perspective of characters we have rarely heard from. Highly recommend.

A wonderful read

Love historical fiction and this book did not disappoint. I’m a quilter and thread artist so was drawn in by the importance to these women of fabric and thread. Lovely story.

This book is a well-researched and creative look at the Civil War based on the two authors’ family histories. It was poignant and hard to put down. Well done!

Opened my eyes to another story of the Civil War

The book’s two authors bring their friendship as a Black woman and a Jewish woman to this eye-opening and tender story that incorporates their families’ experiences in the Civil War. Beautifully written and narrated. Bravo!

important civil war novel

always something new to learn. the terrible treatment of the black soldiers who joined the union army with such hope and the difficulties of Jewish soldiers are seen on the deftly written main characters.
