Resumen del Editor

Overcoming The Biggest Obstacle In Life

At the age of six, Ryan Hamner was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Being diagnosed with cancer at such an early age, and then having it recur three more times before he was 21 (and during the last time undergoing a bone marrow transplant) could come to color one’s worldview. But time and again, Ryan battled his health problems, stepping way beyond the comfort zone anyone, let alone a child or teenager, should ever need to. Through his professional career in music, releasing albums, and touring to play in cancer facilities in the U.S., writing a book released through Blue Cross, training in martial arts, and growing up with the support and love of a close bunch of family (most notably his mom and his Granddaddy Hamner), Ryan reveals an inspiring story with a most hopeful outlook for what’s ahead.

This Is Remission: A Four-Time Cancer Survivor’s Memories of Treatment, Struggle, and Life is a sometimes harrowing, often humorous, always honest account that will empower all, from a cancer patient, a cancer survivor, to a caregiver or anyone lucky enough to never have the disease touch their life.

The strength of someone to have to go through cancer and all that goes with it over and over again, and still push through to see the best and make the most of his life... inspiring! Beautiful! Amazingly light and uplifting for such a heavy topic

Ryan Hamner told his amazing story of surviving cancer 4 times in an uplifting and funny way. I enjoyed how he was able to be a light in discussing such a tough history and bringing in his mother’s (caretakers) perspective. It was also fun hearing him reference things like Atari and Big Chew gum pouches!

Although the focus of this book is his story of remission from cancer - I would suggest this book for anyone who has medical issues that have changed their “new normal.” One key point he made regarding survival and living life to the fullest is perspective and where a person focuses their energy. If you need to be uplifted - buy this book!

Stellar: A Life Remembered and Lessons Shared

Hammer scores a home run with This is Remission. Many memoirs are reimagined and romanticized. Not so regarding Hammer’s newest work. His memories are sharp, representing a slice of endearing Americana that could arise from anywhere and nowhere at the same time. His family and friends are at the heart of the matter. And the matter is a life interrupted by formidable childhood and adult illness. Yet Hamner finds his way with grace, insight and wondrous appreciation toward faith, resolve and appreciation for everyday miracles. His characters are heroes too busy and on course serving others to seek fame, fortune and shallow recognition. His advice and appreciation are inspirational and obtainable. This is a non pretentious work. A common man’s working exploration toward what matters most - the heart. And Hamner knows this. It is purposeful. He wants you to come in, warm yourself by the fire and settle in. This is Remission opens the door to a world where that which is good and true shines through. We are better for reading and listening. If you are seeking to understand the value of hardship, the impossible, and the wisdom of a life well lived, then This is Remission is where you you will find your solace. Hamner leads us to understanding peace. A must read for everyone looking anchor during rough waters. A true masterpiece for generations to come.

Great Book

I highly recommend this, it was a good book! You really get a peek into the life of a “cancer kid” up to adulthood. I know the author personally and it is sad to say one of his late term effects of heart problems killed him at age 42.
