Eloquent while grounded, philosophically and linguistically. Great world building—a super foundation for a complex and enjoyable epoch that is easy to read and relate to. Emotionally complex situations are tackled quite boldly.

good lead and relatable side characters. villains..ok so far.

loved the world building hopeful for more. the protagonist feels like I could have a beer with and just listen to him talk. side characters are interesting without pulling to much focus. despite that though they still made me care about um. really looking forward to the next book.

You feel like you’re in the world. And it’s a world made of poetry. What a shock for a cultivation novel.

Good Cultivation, Better Characters

This book is a great cultivation story, although that's mostly because of the characterizations and interactions. The setting (sci-fi cultivation) is done well and gives a fresh take on sects, and the main character's Way of cultivating nihilism is pretty interesting. Great narration and prose make this quite an enjoyable ride. The ending is a bit off, but not by much, and I will certainly be returning for the sequel.

I'm not really into cultivation mostly due to not understanding what it is or how it works but it's explained really well. not finished with the book yet but I'm impressed enough to leave a review. also the narrative is awsome. he uses good sound effects that helps with emerson.

One of the best in the genre

Very good prose, particularly for the progression fantasy / cultivation genre.

There is quite a bit of nihilistic, sometimes edgy monologuing, but i enjoyed it for the most part. it does happen fairly often and drone on a bit too long at times but if you're into that kind of philosophical pondering on the nature of existence you'll probably enjoy it as well.

Decent characters, and overall story. Nothing particularly revolutionary, but the story execution is handled quite well imo.

Action is used sparingly until needed and provides a nice spectacle when it does come up.

This sets up a very intriguing adventure for future books.

There's a lot more I could say, but to sum it up, execution of the ideas presented is quite good here. Though not perfect, I enjoyed it enough to mostly ignore its faults and I'm looking forward to the next entry in the series.


Honestly, the only reason I'm giving this 4 stars rather than 5 is because 5 stars, for me is something I enjoyed so much that I didn't even notice the flaws till after I'd finished it. While I really really liked this, it didn't get to that point for me. Though, I can see it getting to that point in future books.

It was a great story. And felt like an insider's view On what would be like to cultivate from the ground up. I'd recommend this book and look forward to a sequel.

I say a recommendation somewhere saying the space is a great place for a cultivation story, and they were wrong. Loved the book and am excited for the next!
