Acerca de esta escucha

Cassidy Kincaide runs Trifles and Folly in modern-day Charleston, an antiques and curios shop with a dangerous secret. Cassidy can read the history of objects by touching them and together with Teag, a hacker and weaver witch, and Sorren, a 600-year-old vampire, they get rid of cursed objects and keep Charleston and the world safe from supernatural threats.

An extension of the Deadly Curiosities urban fantasy novel series, this collection contains three full novellas and four short stories: The Final Death, Predator, Fair Game, "Fatal Invitation," "Redcap," "Bloodlines," plus three bonus stories: "Among the Shoals Forever," "The Low Road," and "Steer a Pale Course."

Great collection of stories!

Note: While this is technically Book 2 in the Trifles & Folly series, it works fine as a stand alone. Both books in this series are collections of short stories that belong to a larger series.

I enjoyed this book more than Trifles & Folly 1 because the stories were longer. Some probably count as novellas. I really feel like I got to know the main characters well in this collection. Cassidy & Teag are fully fleshed out as we get to know more about their pasts, their goals, and their choice in pizza toppings (broccoli? really? Ugh!).

I love Ryan and the urban explorers! That’s a great addition. Of course it totally meshes with what Cassidy and Teag do. then there’s also the Episcopal priest – Father Anne. She’s not your run of the mill priest & I really look forward to seeing how her character develops.

And a hint of romance is in the air too. Teag gets a steadfast beau (Anthony) and perhaps there is someone in the wings for Cassidy (Kel). I really appreciate this series staying firmly in the Urban Fantasy genre and not wandering off into paranormal romance. Yep, people have romantic relationships but those relationships enhance the characters without eclipsing the plot.

Shifters! hooray! This was a great story. I thoroughly enjoyed Sorren’s role in this tale. Vampires and shifters don’t usually get along but somebody overstepped by offering violence to Cassidy and Teag. Now Sorren is within his vampire rights to sort out such nonsense swiftly, and without mercy. Good thing that Sorren is all about self control.

The Red Cap tale was fun, as red caps are a small fascination of mine. Then there is that tale of the deadly dinners. That was truly chilling. Imagine inviting a stranger to Thanksgiving dinner, a gesture of generosity. But then one by one all the diners are stricken down. What a way to go!

There’s plenty of ghosts, and an old foe (necromancer) comes into play. Again, Sorren features in that tale, along with the new fascinating Father Anne. A serial killer connected to actual weavings is part of another tale. I was happy to see that Teag is actually interested in weaving and it’s not just a little label attached to his lapel. Some woven rugs become key items in dealing with a serial killer. As a weaver, I especially enjoyed this tale.

The bonuses give us more insight into Sorren and Cassidy’s historical relatives. These were fun and I enjoyed them just as much, if not a little more, than the tales of Cassidy and Teag. After all, there were pirates. Arrrgghhh! 5/5 stars.

The Narration: Amanda Ronconi really shined in this story. She’s got Cassidy’s voice down perfectly. Her male voices sound masculine, including the bonus stories where Dante features heavily. I like her voice for Father Anne especially. The pacing could be a tad slow for some people, but I felt that was just in keeping with Cassidy’s regional accent. There were no technical issues with this recording. 5/5 stars.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Gail Z. Martin. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Enjoyable second in series.

This is my second visit to the Trifles and Folly antique shop and I enjoyed it very much. I don't like short stories but because of the flow it didn't feel like short stories for me. I did prefer the first book in this series but this second book in the series is still a really good listen. With a wide variety of new adventures this second addition to the Trifles and Folly series.Amanda Roncini does another amazing job of giving life to Gail Z Martin's wonderfully imaginative stories.
