In this episode, Telly is joined by Vanessa Gillis-Phelps of Queer Fertility. They discuss what mindful parenting is, how they try to implement it, and why they do. • Emotional Labor and the Mental Load
    Jan 13 2022

In this episode we talk about the leading cause of burnout in women and moms--Emotional Labor and the Mental Load. It's the expectation of holding everyone's emotions with a smile, along with the never ending list of things to do/schedule/prep/accomplish while also smiling and projecting success. It's exhausting! While it affects partnerships of all kinds, this is typically expected of and affects women based on social cues and generational responsibilities. It amplifies when we become moms, because now other people and their needs are added to the long list of people that expect you to be emotionally and mentally available. If you add on a mental health struggle, it can feel like you're failing, because this phenomenon is, again, expected whether we're aware of it or not. We hope you find this episode informative and helpful!

  • Talking to kids about Santa
    Dec 27 2021

In this episode we get in the holiday spirit and break down our opinions on Santa. We love the idea of Santa and the magic of the story, but there are certain aspects of mainstream Santa that don't align totally with the way we are raising our kids. Is playing along with Santa fun for kids, or can it have negative mental health effects? We don't have the answers. We just have opinions.

If you have a Santa believer nearby, this may. not be an episode to listen to with them around.

  • Maternity Leave and the Motherhood Tax
    Dec 5 2021

In this episode we talk about "the motherhood tax" which is the barrier to workplace advancement for simply being a mother. We also discuss maternity leave in our country compared to maternity leave in other countries and how we can do a lot...lot..LOT better! Working moms need support and are, instead, growing increasingly burned out trying do it all.

Exciting news: Telly launched her new support group, The Art of Motherhood! It is like a traditional support group with guidance and creative techniques to help us heal. December 16 is the intro meeting where we will make wooden Christmas ornaments while learning what the group is all about. Hope you join!

Is turning on the tv to get some time to yourself bad?  We've all been there at some point. We share what works for us, and the skills we believe screens ARE teaching. We also dive in to what makes us feel guilty when it comes to screen time.
