  • 168 - The Fragmented Self: Parts Work & Dissociation w/ Jesse D.
    Jun 26 2024

Fellow member of The Shitshow Jesse joins us to discuss the intricate dynamics of trauma responses, dissociation, and the importance of understanding and nurturing the fragmented parts of oneself.

Complex trauma can lead to fragmentation of the self, where a person's identity splits into distinct parts to cope with overwhelming experiences. These parts often include a wounded inner children holding the trauma, protector parts that guards against further harm, and manager parts that strives to maintain normalcy and control. This fragmentation helps the individual survive but can cause long-term psychological challenges.

Connecting with our fragmented parts allows us to understand and integrate the different aspects of our identity shaped by trauma, fostering self-compassion and healing. This process helps to resolve internal conflicts, leading to a more cohesive and resilient self.

A Must Listen

I stumbled across this podcast while looking for something completely different. I have to say, it was fate or a godsend. Andrea not only has introduced me to myself (an Adult Child), but she does it in a way that makes you laugh at yourself and not feel talked down to. I love every episode and am now on my way to learning more about being an Adult Child of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional families.
