Unfortunately, the skeletal artifacts have other ideas about where they should be. Our story is set in South America, so we'll also take a look at Mesoamerican burial practices.

    Did you know that The United States is the leading consumer of corn worldwide? In 2023/2024, the U.S. consumed about 12 billion bushels of corn. This is good news for farmers, but not such great news for a man who buys some corn from a roadside vender. “Corn,” by K. A. Opperman, is a story about fertilizer…a very peculiar kind of fertilizer. We'll also look at fertilizers both common and unusual.

  • Backward Man

    What does our future hold? That question has been asked by humans for a millennium. Ancient cultures, and modern ones, too, have often used dreams, animal sightings and more as symbols that foretell the future. In our story, “Backward Man,” by Caleb Taylor, a young man has seen a strange, horrific individual his whole life. And, whenever he sees it, someone dies.
    We'll also look into the lore of omens and common harbingers of death.
