  • Resumen

  • After two years of supporting each other’s music projects to tour across Europe and the UK, Brea Robertson and Poppy Rose decided to work on a project they could do closer to home. Art-Work the podcast was born! Why Art-Work? We want to provide a platform for multi-disciplinary artists to share their work, their passion and their journey with a broader audience. We hope that people from all backgrounds will hear these stories and gain a deeper understanding into the minds, the life and the process of creative people from all over the world. We also want to shine a spotlight on independent artists who are not well known, to celebrate their stories and challenge the idea that to be successful in the arts, you need notoriety. So far, we have been amazed at the conversations we’ve had with artists from Canada, England, Germany, Australia, the USA, Norway and India. Stories of challenging social systems in India to pursue a passion, using the arts to fight political battles in Norway, discussing the art of balancing multiple projects as an artist, using music as a therapy in refugee camps across Europe and more. Every human has an incredible story, and we can’t wait to share some with you! Find us on Spotify, Google, Apple podcasts and Soundcloud.

  • The Power of Female Comicality
    Oct 20 2021
Ever heard of post-porn clowning? Soon it will become a household term when ABA NAIA take over the world with their incredible Berlin-based Latin-American-European performance collective! Today we had the honour of speaking with Teija and Jaika, two members of ABA NAIA. Since 2017, the collective have been exploring topics of sexuality with a comedic approach. With tools of post-porn clowning they question gender norms and its expectations, as well as the myths and stereotypes of femininity and desire. They say, “Our bodies, our sexuality and our vulnerability are our political weapons on stage. We battle the boundaries between cheerfulness and discomfort. We want to inspire and encourage our audience, to question their perceptions on freedom of self expression, sexuality, equality and pleasure.” All of this comes together in their post-porn clowning lecture performance, We Can Do It Moaning. In this episode, Teija and Jaika tell us about how practising things that make us feel awkward help to normalise it, how powerful comedy is when venturing into awkward or difficult topics of conversation, and how important vulnerability is when wanting to be funny...the clown helps us see a reflection of ourselves in our most vulnerable place. • The Joys & Challenges of Being a Screen Actor
    Sep 29 2021
Ever wondered what it's like to be part of a huge Netflix show production? Our artist today is actor and singer Sam Otto, who plays John Osweiller in the hit Netflix dystopian drama, Snowpiercer. Sam studied at Drama School London, but left his course early to perform in Richard Wilson’s ‘Fracked!’ at Chichester Festival Theatre. He then secured the lead role in Peter Kosminsky’s explosive drama, ‘The State’, in which 4 young British citizens journey to Syria to join ISIS. The show went on to receive a BAFTA nomination in the miniseries category. In this episode we talk about finding your voice when working on a big studio tv production as a relative newcomer, maintaining a creative practice outside the ‘job’, how Sam is navigating how to make the most of his colour and race when auditioning for roles, without being defined by it... and so much more. We loved meeting Sam and felt really honoured at how candidly he shared with us about his acting journey. Follow Sam online... • Celebrating the Messiness of the Artistic Process
    Aug 25 2021
Creating is not a perfect, linear journey; and today we talk all about embracing the mess in our process with Danish-born, Berlin-based movement artist, singer and musician, Kat Polar. As an artist and creator Kat's passion is to be what she creates, to observe and live inside of it. She also explores the discipline of resisting the "fast-pace" production that is all consuming in our capitalist world, especially when it comes to promoting and sharing your art as a polished and perfect product on social media. In this episode we talk about entering the flow state while creating, the balance between being an artist and having to exist in a capitalist world, how to be authentic on social media, and how as artists we have the power to create our own realities... including our definition of success.
