Break It Down Again With Rene Pineda

  • Resumen

  • Roller skates, rollerblades, your mom's cooking, a dinner, that first concert you went to, your first crush, your first love, your first heartbreak... They all have one thing in common: Music. Music is THE universal language. Music is all around Us. How certain songs became hits, who was behind the drum set? Who wrote the lyrics? Who helped with getting the band together? These are all things we'll be diving into as we Break It Down Again.

Corny movies with cheesy lines is something we grew up with during the 80s - but that's what makes them special and definitely encapsulated in time.  But besides the cheesiness and the corniness, these movies carry something very special within them.  Call it an added bonus, but no movie was complete if it didn't have a bad-ass soundtrack.  Some songs were picked from a library, but others were so special that they had to be written (and some times re-written) for a film.  Well, that's the case we dive into on this episode.  We were a little past the middle point of the decade, and John Hughes was at the center of it all.  He loved the synth-pop sound...  So what does he do to make this film unforgettable?  He asks two guys to write a corny song... but that's not where the story ends.  Come along with me as we break down the story to song we've all heard at least once, by a group you don't know you already know.  80s movies wouldn't be the same without their music - so, if you leave without checking out this episode... don't look back.

  • MTV Actually Meant Music Television - Video Is A Killer!
    Dec 9 2021

Back when YouTube wasn't around, we had to beg the rock and roll gods that our favorite band's video would play on a now defunct channel called MTV.  I know what you're thinking, "Rene, MTV isn't dead"...  Well, actually, MTV as most of us late 80s early 90s kids knew it, yes, it is dead.  There was a time when it was the best way to check out the latest videos of your favorite bands/singers.   Well just like every story, this one has a beginning.  I take you back to 8 months after John Lennon's death.  The year is 1981.
