  • 'Cause I Live To Like You!
    Mar 8 2022

Corny movies with cheesy lines is something we grew up with during the 80s - but that's what makes them special and definitely encapsulated in time.  But besides the cheesiness and the corniness, these movies carry something very special within them.  Call it an added bonus, but no movie was complete if it didn't have a bad-ass soundtrack.  Some songs were picked from a library, but others were so special that they had to be written (and some times re-written) for a film.  Well, that's the case we dive into on this episode.  We were a little past the middle point of the decade, and John Hughes was at the center of it all.  He loved the synth-pop sound...  So what does he do to make this film unforgettable?  He asks two guys to write a corny song... but that's not where the story ends.  Come along with me as we break down the story to song we've all heard at least once, by a group you don't know you already know.  80s movies wouldn't be the same without their music - so, if you leave without checking out this episode... don't look back.

Think of Christmas and tell me your top 5 favorite songs...  If you're an 80s or 90s kid you were exposed to possibly most of the same songs that are still played on the radio (and every Christmas party)  every year.  So when did Christmas music become a 24/7 thing at the end of the year?  What caused it?   Most importantly, which song holds the number 2 spot on the charts since its release in 1984?  Find out on this post-Christmas episode of Break It Down Again With Rene Pineda.

  • MTV Actually Meant Music Television - Video Is A Killer!
    Dec 9 2021

Back when YouTube wasn't around, we had to beg the rock and roll gods that our favorite band's video would play on a now defunct channel called MTV.  I know what you're thinking, "Rene, MTV isn't dead"...  Well, actually, MTV as most of us late 80s early 90s kids knew it, yes, it is dead.  There was a time when it was the best way to check out the latest videos of your favorite bands/singers.   Well just like every story, this one has a beginning.  I take you back to 8 months after John Lennon's death.  The year is 1981.

  • Which Is The Best Best Wine? Could It Be... Red Red Wine?
    Nov 18 2021

So I'm back... and this time, I'm not alone.  Well, technically I am, but a couple of friends made some music magic for me with this new intro to the podcast!  But I digress.  Music in the 80s defined today's sound...  Ask The Weeknd, he'll tell you all about it.  The beautiful thing about that decade was that thanks to MTV, a lot different sounds came to light.  Ska, Punk, New Wave, Reggae,...  You get the picture.  Speaking of Reggae (not to be confused with reggaeton) there was a group that could have used a little help from from a time-traveling DeLorean.  Why?   Well, find out on this new episode of Break It Down Again.
