  • A Fucking Avocado... Oriana & Rodney
    Nov 23 2023

Oriana and I met through real estate. She, is an amazing agent, I was hired to do her headshots. We instantly bonded on the topic of mental health.

Despite having worked several times with Oriana, I still hadn't had a chance to hear her story. Today, I finally got to hear a bit of it... And you do too! Affected since high school, she tried to end it all. She has pushed past the odds and today, speaks very openly about this disease, her opinions on medications, and why people going through similar challenges find her and trust her.

Rodney never realized that he had a mental health battle going on. But once he was diagnosed, so many things in his life suddenly made sense! From growing up in a small town where men don't talk about these things, to finding escapism through drugs and alcohol and how he realized he needed to do something drastic in order to save himself... Helped by the new love in his life, Oriana... And their mutual love of motorcycling.

Together they have pushed forward and, today, are spearheading a campaign in the hopes of raising even more awareness through branded clothing, and other items. www.inspiredbytrauma.ca

And, you'll also discover why Oriana isn't very happy with one doctor's recommendation that a lot of things could be solved with an avocado.

Kelly experienced a lot of loss at a very young age. When she sought help, the help she found lost her trust.

The long term effects of that have come at a price. But, thanks to a loving husband and a solid group of friends around her, Kelly has found a way to manage her life and, for the first time, is truly LIVING.

This is her story, as she told it in the BTRV FOR MENTAL HEALTH on July 8, 2023.

  • Lisa... From A Type A Personality To A Type Zen - May 18, 2023
    May 19 2023
Lisa heals people. Especially those of us dealing with anxiety and stress and depression. Lisa is a Reiki practitioner, and Shamanic Healer at Kingston's Integrated Health. When I first met Lisa, I instantly felt the calm that radiates from her. It is undeniable. But Lisa wasn't always this way. She set out to be in journalism, then found her way into business and was building an empire! Until she got sick. I admire anyone who listens to the universe when this happens and asks, "what is the message here?" Lisa did just that. Listened, learned, opened her eyes and her soul and learned about an entire world of energies and spirituality that has her truly at peace, and able to help others through her work, her writing, her podcast and more. This was a powerful conversation. I cried the moment it ended. We need more of these lessons in life. Thank you Lisa! https://www.lisasabatini.com

  • My Kid Is In Crisis - Pam's Challenge To Find Help For Her Son Following 9-11 - May 18, 2023
    May 19 2023

Pam is a dual citizen (Canada & USA) and was living in New York on 9-11.

One of her children had already been dealing with some mental health matters when this horrific attack occurred. The impact this had on his mental health turned an already difficult situation for him, and for the family, into a crisis. He was suicidal.

In Canada, we have a lot of concerns about our health care system and how difficult it is to find doctors. Finding a doctor to work with on mental health matters is an even bigger challenge. And most of us in Canada believe that in the USA, with healthcare being a privately run business, that there are plenty of doctors available, so long as you have the money. As we find out in this conversation, there's a lot more to it than that, and finding someone to help save your child can be a nightmare.

  • Sara Weiss - Athlete, Life Coach, Mom, And... Trans - May 17, 2023
    May 18 2023

Sara Weiss was set to compete in Florida at a very important Pickle Ball Tournament when someone on Twitter chose to create chaos by revealing that she was born a male.

Her longtime mixed doubles partner, upon finding out, quit. Except, Sara never denied who she was. In fact, she had revealed her past life in a book.

It's one of many difficult moments in her life which she has faced head on, dealt with, overcome and been better because of!

Sara is the very definition of perseverance and her story is one, that I really hope, will speak to, and inspire, many whose mental health struggles are based in confusion about gender, orientation, sexuality in a world that seems to want to celebrate diversity, and yet, appears to be moving more backwards, rather than forward.

  • Johnny "The Aspie Drummer" - May 12 2023
    May 13 2023

Imagine living more than 40 years knowing something wasn't right. Going un-diagnosed until a breakdown at work finally leads you to getting answers for your behaviour, for how you're wired, and for why everyone around you misunderstood you for so long.

Asperger's. Johnny Racine understands himself better now, and we discuss what that has meant for him and the changes it has allowed him to make in his life!

Johnny has always loved mechanical things. He works on motorcycles, assisted us in getting the electronics sorted out in the BTRV, and it wasn't until we sat down for this conversation that I really got to know WHY he believes so much in this project and why he wanted to tell his story.

Ironically, Johnny is one hell of a drummer. Imagine that... A guy who has always kinda marched to his own beat is a drummer. Or as he calls himself, "The Aspie Drummer."
