  • E093 - Six Digital Marketing Myths Killing Your ROI
    Sep 11 2025

In this episode, we tackle six persistent myths that continue to trip up business owners and marketers. First, we explore why SEO is not a one-time project but an ongoing process that requires consistent updates and fresh content.

Next, we break down the misconception that simply spending more on Google Ads guarantees more leads—precision targeting is what drives performance.

We also challenge the belief that a good-looking website automatically performs well, emphasizing the importance of conversions and usability.

From there, we revisit the myth that email marketing is “dead” and reveal why it still delivers some of the highest ROI in the industry.

We also address the idea that more traffic always means more sales, underscoring the need for qualified visitors.

Finally, we confront the fear that AI will replace digital marketers and explain why it’s a tool, not a substitute for strategy and creativity.

  • E092 - Building Authority: Books as Marketing Gold
    Aug 14 2025

In this episode I sit down with Jen Foster, a Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author, to explore the transformative power of publishing a book as a marketing strategy. Foster, founder of Elite Online Publishing, reveals how professionals can leverage existing content like blog posts and presentations to create impactful books that establish thought leadership and drive business growth.

The conversation delves into the practical aspects of book creation, highlighting innovative techniques such as using transcription tools like Otter.ai to convert spoken content into manuscripts. Foster emphasizes the importance of having a clear purpose for the book, whether it's generating leads, promoting additional services, or positioning oneself as an industry expert. She shares strategies for achieving bestseller status on platforms like Amazon, including creating a targeted launch team and coordinating concentrated book sales within a 24-48 hour window.

Key takeaways include the potential of books to open media opportunities, enhance professional credibility, and create additional revenue streams. Foster advises professionals to focus on their unique expertise, develop compelling narratives around frequently asked questions, and view the book as a strategic marketing tool rather than just a publication. The episode concludes with practical advice for entrepreneurs and business owners looking to use book publishing as a powerful method of professional branding and marketing.

Video has always been a powerful storytelling tool. It connects emotionally, captures attention, and communicates complex messages with clarity. • E090 - Surviving AIO: Can Organic Traffic Compete?
    Jun 4 2025

Google’s rollout of AI Overviews (AIO) is changing the landscape of organic search. Now appearing in around 13% of all queries, AIO is expected to grow in visibility—reshaping how users interact with search results. While transactional and map-based searches remain mostly unaffected, AIO often answers user queries directly, limiting the need to scroll down or click through to websites. This has major implications for sites that rely on informational and long-tail keyword traffic.

As AIO increases the frequency of “zero-click searches,” many websites are losing valuable traffic that once supported brand awareness and top-of-funnel engagement. Prospects who might have visited your site to learn more now get what they need from the AIO snippet and move on—never reaching your content or discovering your value proposition. This shift, along with the rise of AI-driven tools like Perplexity and ChatGPT, means SEO strategies must evolve to remain visible across multiple platforms.

To adapt, website owners need to focus on EEAT (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness), build strong author profiles, and optimize content for credibility. Publishing under real names with detailed bios, certifications, and social proof helps establish authority with both users and Google. Additionally, with Google’s latest algorithm prioritizing fast load speeds and mobile UX, site performance has become more critical than ever. Streamline code, compress images, and deliver a seamless mobile experience to stay competitive in this new AI-powered search era.

  • E088 - Legal Ramifications of AI with Attorney Alexis Nelson
    Mar 18 2025

Let’s dive into the legal side of creating content with AI. If you’re using generative tools like ChatGPT, MidJourney, Canva, or anything similar to produce images, videos, or written content, it’s essential to understand how intellectual property laws come into play—and to ensure you're staying compliant. Your prompts may be original, but the outputs generated by these tools might not be, and that can raise serious legal concerns down the road.

To help us unpack this, I’ve invited Alexis Nelson—an expert in patent and intellectual property law—to break down what content creators need to know before hitting publish on AI-generated work.

Alexis is the founder of Silicon Slopes IP, a boutique IP law firm. She also serves as of counsel at Kunzler, Bean & Adamson in Salt Lake City and Goldstein Patent Law in New York. With over two decades of experience, Alexis has represented everyone from startups to Fortune 100 companies. Her practice covers patents, trademarks, licensing, disputes, and all things IP.
