  • With and within uncertainty
    Mar 4 2026

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about finding our way in uncertainty. How do they handle it? How do they find a way of living with and within, ambiguity?

Together, they talk about fears and wonderings and remember that listening to one another really matters. Holding on to those around us brings us strength and courage, especially because things don't always work out.

It's just how life goes sometimes. But the invitation of uncertainty is to lean into our individual and shared courage. And maybe, however small that might feel, hold on as we move through what feels untethered.

What a fantastic and tender conversation.

  • People first. Systems second
    Feb 18 2026

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about what happens when the computer says no and when process becomes their priority at the expense of their relationships with one another.

Doing this can make us slow rather than helping us to be nimble, able to flex and, move forward to achieve vision and mission. So together they explore how vital it is that all process and regulation keeps the main thing.

The main thing the preciousness of every person and their thriving and being willing to buck the system. When this has been forgotten, this feels like a timely conversation, rediscovering our sacred belonging to one another.

It always matters. For this, we must be courageous.

  • Digging deeper into resilience
    Feb 4 2026

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about resilience. They uncover that resilience can be good and bad and can take many forms. So what ultimately matters are the values and beliefs that our resilience is rooted in.

Ultimately, they can't discuss resilience without talking about our motives that are driving us, they think through what our resilience will look like if it's founded on loving God and loving others as ourselves.

And in the desire to serve and to give, they recognise that this kind of resilience doesn't just happen, we build it over time through leaning into the struggle and complexity of life.

This was such an energising and joyous conversation.

  • Becoming a trusted person
    Jan 21 2026

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about how to become a person who is trusted by others. Trust takes a long time and it's all built on the foundation of good relationship.

They explore how trust is like money in the bank that we accrue and can spend. And most significantly, they recognise that becoming a trustworthy person means means being authentic, doing what we say we will do, being rooted and motivated by values centred on love and goodness and never self interest.

Trust is sacred and needs to be handled accordingly. The purpose of trust is to see goodness come in the world.

  • Getting out of the thought-traps
    Nov 26 2025

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke all about thought traps, about getting stuck in a loop of thinking we just can't get out of. They talk about when we get caught in a survival mindset and how it triggers our anger, frustration and fear.

And they discuss how the best chance we have is to connect and take care of one another. Hope is not found in fight and division doesn't empower us. We need proximity and to create collaboration, learning to sit with one another and listen.

This is the way of compassion. It is the way of hope. Crossing the room to love our neighbours.

  • Refusing the shortcuts
    Nov 12 2025

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about why developing inner core strength and refusing to take shortcuts matters so much. They discuss steadiness, balance and resilience and how these come about through hard work and practise exercising the spiritual and emotional muscles needed to thrive.

It's tempting to take shortcuts, but stepping out of our comfort zone, we see that strength and learning is all formed through pain and screw ups, joy and success, suffering and challenge. These are all of life for all of us.

Our job is to embrace it all and we get to do this roller coaster life with one another. What a gift that is.

  • The Importance of Rites of Passage
    Oct 29 2025

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about the importance of rites of passage, how marking moments helps us to navigate life and to thrive. We consider how the absence of such markers can leave us adrift, susceptible and without a sense of true north.

And we miss the beautiful invitation to an ongoing journey of growth. We see the value of developing practises and rituals that bring us together across groups and divides, holding us steady, and, as a result, able to build stronger communities where everyone is included.
