In this episode of Her Health Podcast, I discuss the birth control pill and the importance of informed consent. I emphasize that while birth control can be a useful tool, it is often prescribed without informing women about the side effects and how it actually works. I highlight that the pill is not a solution to underlying health issues and can mask symptoms rather than addressing the root cause. I also discuss how the pill affects ovulation, mood, gut health, nutrient depletion, and libido. I encourage women to have access to information and alternative options for birth control.

  • 3. Late Period: Why and How I Fixed It
    Jul 9 2024

Welcome to the third episode of Her Health Podcast! I'm Eliana Petralito, and today, I'm sharing why my period was late last month and what I'm doing to support my body and get back on track.

For those new here, I've dealt with severe hormonal imbalances for years, likely due to PCOS, though I never received an official diagnosis. My periods were always irregular and painful, often missing for months. Now, as a Holistic Nutritionist, I’ve achieved regular, pain-free periods, typically between 28 to 35 days, a significant improvement from the 40-65 days I used to experience. This consistency is something I've maintained for two years—until recently, when my cycle extended to 41 days.

I’m sharing this to show that even with a solid routine, we are all human and imperfect. My period was late because my body is highly sensitive to stress and sleep disruptions. This past April and May were incredibly stressful, both personally and professionally, which impacted my sleep and, subsequently, my menstrual cycle.

When it comes to hormonal balance, nutrition is just one piece of the puzzle. Stress management and quality sleep are equally important.

If you’ve experienced similar issues or are currently facing them, feel free to reach out to me on Instagram @healthywitheliana_. You'll find all my information, including my website, in the show notes below. Thank you for joining me, and I'll talk to you soon!

Keywords: period, late period, hormonal imbalances, stress management, quality sleep, structured schedule, early dinner, avoiding electronics, nervous system, hormonal health.

  • 2. Understanding the Signs and Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance
    Jul 5 2024

"What are the symptoms? How do I know when I have a hormonal imbalance?"

In this episode, I discuss the signs and symptoms of a hormonal imbalance. I emphasize that there are many symptoms beyond irregular periods that are often overlooked and dismissed. These symptoms include painful periods, PMS symptoms, lower back pain, breast pain, headaches, fatigue, digestive issues, mood swings, cysts, acne, and more. I highlight the problem of doctors treating each symptom individually with medication instead of addressing the root cause. I encourage listeners to ask questions, explore other avenues, and not dismiss these symptoms. I also explain the imbalance between estrogen and progesterone and the importance of addressing the root cause to resolve the symptoms. Keywords: hormonal imbalance, signs, symptoms, irregular periods, overlooked symptoms, dismissed symptoms, root cause, medication, estrogen, progesterone.

    Takeaways:

    • Hormonal imbalances can manifest in various symptoms beyond irregular periods, such as PMS symptoms, breast pain, headaches, fatigue, and digestive issues.
    • Doctors often treat each symptom individually with medication instead of addressing the root cause of hormonal imbalances.
    • It is important to ask questions, explore other avenues, and not dismiss symptoms of a hormonal imbalance.
    • The imbalance between estrogen and progesterone can lead to various symptoms, and addressing the root cause is crucial for resolving these symptoms.
    • Seeking help from a doctor or practitioner specializing in women's health can provide support in tackling the root cause of hormonal imbalances.

  • 1. My Health & Hormonal Journey
    Jun 25 2024

Welcome to the first episode of Her Health Podcast! I am soooo excited, I can’t even believe this is happening! Thank you so much for being here.

In this inaugural episode, I'll be sharing my personal journey: who I am, why I do what I’m doing, and how I got here, including my own hormonal health story. For those who don’t know me, I’m Eliana, a Holistic Nutritionist specializing in women’s health, hormones, menstrual health, and fertility. I’m passionate about natural medicine and a holistic approach, but I didn’t start out in nutrition. My path began with significant health struggles, starting with irregular and painful periods from the age of 15.

Originally from Italy, I moved to Canada at 17, and I initially pursued a career in law enforcement. Despite my success and fitness, I struggled with severe menstrual pain, fatigue, and other symptoms that doctors dismissed as normal. It wasn’t until I took control of my health and delved into holistic nutrition that I found relief and a new career path.

    In this episode, I’ll discuss:

    • My background and initial career aspirations
    • The severe menstrual and hormonal issues I faced & possible PCOS
    • My frustration with traditional medical advice and the lack of holistic care
    • How I transitioned to studying holistic nutrition and transformed my health
    • Why menstrual pain and other symptoms are signals of underlying issues
    • My passion for helping women through holistic approaches to health

I want you to know you’re not alone and that your symptoms are real and manageable. Connect with me on Instagram @healthywitheliana_ and let me know your thoughts and what you’d like to hear on the podcast. This podcast is for you, and I’m here to guide you through your health journey.

Thank you for listening, and I can’t wait to chat again next Tuesday!
