• 150 // Decluttering the Unrealistic Expectations of Motherhood - with Danielle Bettmann from Parenting Wholeheartedly
    Aug 29 2024
Imagine this scene: You’re shopping in Target with one child pulling on your leg and the other grabbing random items off the shelves, wailing, “PLEEEEASE Mommy can I have this?” An elderly woman in the same aisle smiles at you and says, “You’re going to miss this, dear! The days are long but the years are short!” Or imagine that you buy a parenting book about a discipline approach that your sister-in-law raves about, but when you try it at home it just makes you feel uneasy. But it’s all you’re seeing on your Instagram ads and hearing about from your mom friends, so you decide just to push through, even though it’s making you miserable. Whether unrealistic expectations are placed on us by well-meaning people, or we place them on ourselves due to our own childhood experiences, it is something that constantly plagues us with self-doubt. Am I doing enough? Am I doing this right? On today’s episode, I’m talking with Danielle Bettmann, parenting coach at Parenting Wholeheartedly and the host of the Failing Motherhood Podcast, about how we can declutter these unrealistic expectations and have confidence in our parenting again. Danielle is a positive-Discipline certified parenting coach who empowers parents to crack the code of their strong-willed child's personality, meet their deepest core needs to improve their behavior, and find new levels of patience. An early childhood educator, certified teacher and home visitor, Danielle now equips parents from all over via Zoom! Instead of inadvertently inviting defiance by using traditional tools or playing "whack-a-mole" with short-sighted reactions, families get on the same page and learn how to cultivate cooperation while being KIND + FIRM at the same time! Host of the well-loved podcast, Failing Motherhood, she's passionate about eliminating shame from parents' vocabulary, reminding them they are the parent their kids need. She is also a mom to two daughters, wife of 15 years to her high-school sweetheart, and an avid fan of sunshine and coffee. Resources Mentioned: Connect with Danielle on her website, her podcast, and Instagram. I would highly recommend her FREE Calm + Confident masterclass where you’ll learn how to master the KIND + FIRM approach that your strong-willed child needs without crushing their spirit or walking on eggshells. • 148 // The Power of a “Yes” List to Overcome Overwhelm - with Jessica Jackson from the Thriving in Motherhood Podcast
    Aug 22 2024
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, creating a “yes” list - a list of everything you’ve said yes to - is a powerful tool to help you understand why you’re saying yes, what needs to change, and how to get yourself out of chaos. My return guest, Jessica Jackson, has amazing insights to share on this important topic! Jessica is a homeschooling mother of four children, host of Thriving in Motherhood Podcast, creator of the Thriving in Motherhood Planner and Journal, and cheerleader in her program the Surviving to Thriving Toolkit. She knows what it is like to try and find peace and balance between running a business, a household, and creating a strong family culture while real life keeps happening. After years of struggle she realized there are simple, practical things she can do to stop in living survival mode no matter her circumstances and find meaning and joy in everyday life. Her mission is to empower women to go from surviving motherhood to soaring - using their unique gifts and talents, having a relationship with God, experiencing life as the grand adventure it is, and enjoying meaningful relationships with friends and family. Resources Mentioned: Connect with Jessica on her website, podcast, and YouTube channel. Sometimes when we are feeling overwhelmed, we have to ask ourselves some hard questions, like:

“Am I causing my own chaos?”

When we understand our non-negotiables and say yes to what aligns with our values rather than what we think others expect from us, we can enjoy contentment in our motherhood.

In today’s episode I’m chatting with Andrea Dekker, a wife and mother of 4 young children who loves nothing more than being home!

Andrea blogs at andreadekker.com, where she shares her passions for creating a peaceful home, pursuing a simpler + slower lifestyle, and encouraging women in all stages of life to lean into their values and live more intentionally.

We chat about the transition to motherhood that caused her to feel overwhelmed, how she learned to start saying “no” and embrace her season of motherhood, and what back-to-school routines look like in her home!

  • 143 // Define Your Motherhood Legacy - My Interview on the Mom Made Plans Podcast with Julie Redmond
    Jul 25 2024

When you think of the word “legacy”, what comes to mind?

What we leave behind for the ones we love?

What if I told you that the legacy we leave our kids is a result of our actions today?

In this eye-opening conversation with Julie Redmond on the Mom Made Plans podcast, we discuss the unhealthy coping mechanisms (including scrolling) that I’ve used to deal with the stresses of motherhood, and how recognizing the legacy I wanted to leave has allowed me to shift my perspective. I also offer some tactical strategies on how to leave a legacy by how we live in the mundane moments of motherhood.

Julie, a two-time guest on Moms Overcoming Overwhelm, is a twin mom and host of the Mom Made Plans podcast. She is on a mission to make mom-life feel easier by getting out of survival mode and into intentional motherhood. She fully believes no routine or system will work until you know how you work. That means using self awareness filled strategies to become more efficient and impactful in your home.
