  • Episode 9: Paralympics legend Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson discusses disability issues, determination and assisted dying legislation
    Jul 26 2024

It’s Friday again, and time for another exciting episode of Nothing but a Number, where I explore age and ageing with remarkable guests from politics, public life, and beyond, breaking down ageist myths and misconceptions.

This week I am thrilled to speak with Baroness Grey-Thompson of Eaglescliffe, one of Britain’s greatest Paralympic athletes and a prominent figure in the House of Lords.

Tanni retired from her Paralympic career at 37, considered old in the sporting world, only to be seen as young when she transitioned to the House of Lords. Her journey from a pioneering athlete to a powerful voice in social justice is inspiring. Her parents fought for her right to mainstream education, and her legacy includes being the first disabled person to present the Olympics.

In this episode, we discuss the distinction between what can be changed by legislation versus education, the role and importance of the House of Lords, and delve into the assisted dying debate and how to talk about death. We also explore the health of the nation, lifestyles, and the importance of sports in education.

Please tune in and I would love to hear from you, so please do get in touch or comment to share your thoughts!
