  • EP 10 | Intersectionality and Civil Discourse w/Kim Brassor
    Jul 19 2024
What is intersectionality? Intersectionality is a concept coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989 to describe how various forms of social subcategories, such as race, gender, and class, intersect to create unique dynamics and effects. When we recognize that individuals can't be defined by a single aspect of their identity, we begin to see the full picture of their lived experiences. This deeper understanding enables us to address the complex realities of discrimination and oppression. This is particularly true in this political season. The ‘gotcha’ mentality comes from a biopic perspective on humanity - there’s one way, the right way, my way. That has never been helpful for creating safe spaces for people to connect. I share about intersectionality and civil discourse and how we can have a significant impact living in a racial world. In this 10th episode of our podcast, I reflect on the first episodes and zero in on the past month's conversations and eagerly share my learnings and areas of growth in leading the mission of One Voice Evolving to come to fruition. Thank you for being on this journey with me. I invite you to like, share, comment and subscribe so we can join together to advance the important work of racial equity.

  • EP 8 | Good Grief - The Intersection of Religion, Rights and Racism w/Melody LeBaron
    Jul 5 2024
This week our guest is author Melody LeBaron who wrote “Transforming Death: Creating Sacred Space.” She brings a distinct background and describes how the intersection of privilege, patriarchy, and colonialism intersect with her spirituality and activism in today's world. The unique part is the intersection of the grief work that she has done on end of life, and the way that we experience that grief in our bodies, both individually and communally, in our societal constructs, constructs whether that's patriarchy or colonialism, or racism or religion. And we talk about all of those things, and the intersection and the evolution of a life through all of that, and how that makes us uniquely equipped today to make a difference in advancing racial equity in our lifetime. Melody specializes in helping white women feel motivated to explore their own consciousness and release. Old conditioning. She explains practical ways through somatic healing or body work for clearing grief in our individual and collective pain. We know you'll appreciate her no-nonsense approach to advancing true racial equity in our lifetime. • EP 6 | Raising Children in a Racial World w/Tracey Butler-Johnson
    Jun 21 2024
Our topic for today is Raising Children in a Racist World. Meet Tracey Butler-Johnson. Tracey has been drawn to this work for as long as she can remember. We talk about how she was raised in Brooklyn and how she met her husband and how their family navigated interracial marriage, and then how they are raising their child in a very liberal part of DC. And yet still at the age of 3 their child was exposed to racism. Tracey is known for her TikTok presence and that was where I first stumbled across her. She is direct and unapologetically for racial equity and empathy along the way. I love her presentation; I love her smile; and we agree that white people in America need to acknowledge how deeply embedded white supremacy culture is in the United States and that there are ways to deconstruct that in our families in our homes, in our organizations, our churches, and our workplaces. And so how do we recognize it? Where do we get support and how do we undo it in our lifetime? Join us for the conversation. Take notes. There'll be resources at the end and you can always find resources on our webpage at onevoiceevolving.com. We hope you'll join us and enjoy the podcast and make sure that you like comment and share with your friends and family. Enjoy!
