  • Resumen

  • Welcome to One Voice Evolving podcast where our mission is to reclaim joy in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) spaces. Our goal is to dive deeper than the surface and bring on guests who are raw, real, and relatable, shifting the conversation from head to heart for White women. As a White woman, my understanding of racism has been shallow and sheltered. The privilege of my skin color has opened doors to me that I once believed were universal rights. It wasn't until later in life that I truly saw the barriers faced by those who do not share my complexion. I acknowledge living in a "white bubble" of privilege that allowed me to flirt with change and retreat to my comfort zone at will, a luxury not afforded to my Black and Brown sisters. With privilege comes responsibility. White women, including myself, have a crucial role in dismantling racism and advocating for fairness in our societies, communities, and creations. I recognize the imperative to break free from generational constraints and face the reality that has always existed. I am now accountable to use my privilege and influence for good. My mission is not to convince Black folk that I'm a safe space but to inspire other White women to be safe spaces. What's next? Like, save, subscribe, and share with your communities! Tune in every Friday for new episodes. Let's evolve together.

  • EP 10 | Intersectionality and Civil Discourse w/Kim Brassor
    Jul 19 2024
What is intersectionality? Intersectionality is a concept coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989 to describe how various forms of social subcategories, such as race, gender, and class, intersect to create unique dynamics and effects. When we recognize that individuals can't be defined by a single aspect of their identity, we begin to see the full picture of their lived experiences. This deeper understanding enables us to address the complex realities of discrimination and oppression. This is particularly true in this political season. The ‘gotcha’ mentality comes from a biopic perspective on humanity - there’s one way, the right way, my way. That has never been helpful for creating safe spaces for people to connect. I share about intersectionality and civil discourse and how we can have a significant impact living in a racial world. In this 10th episode of our podcast, I reflect on the first episodes and zero in on the past month's conversations and eagerly share my learnings and areas of growth in leading the mission of One Voice Evolving to come to fruition. Thank you for being on this journey with me. I invite you to like, share, comment and subscribe so we can join together to advance the important work of racial equity.
