Protecting Youth Innocence: Navigating the Impact of Societal Beauty Standards on Young Girls and Setting Boundaries

  • Resumen

  • Hi friends! In this episode, I invited Annie Tam back on the podcast and we’re diving deep into a subject that impacts us all, but particularly our youth—societal beauty standards and their far-reaching consequences. In this episode, Annie and I explore the profound effects that societal pressures, social media, and beauty culture have on young people's self-perception and emotional well-being. We'll unpack the troubling trend of youths worrying about wrinkles and aging, often fueled by unrealistic beauty ideals. Annie shares invaluable advice on fostering open communication between parents and children about self-image, the definition of beauty, and the importance of family values.

Annie is a licensed professional counselor and owner of Mend Counseling, who specializes in helping mothers and young adults build self-confidence and embrace their identities. She is also a co-founder of A and K Collective, which provides Momchic renewal retreats for the everyday mom looking for relaxation.

I can’t wait for you to listen as we tackle these critical issues and learn how we can better support our children in developing a healthy self-image. I am honored to show up each week for the conversation we’re having on the More of What Matters podcast and bring you inspiring and actionable content that I hope is truly helpful for you.
