In the serene seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, Helen Fleet, a 66-year-old retired factory inspector, enjoyed her days walking her two dogs, Bilbow and Cindy, in Worlebury Woods. On March 28, 1987, Helen left her blue Datsun in Worlebury Hill Road, unaware that this routine stroll would be her last. Stabbed ten times, battered, and strangled, Helen's screams shattered the tranquility of the woods.

The community was shaken as news of her brutal death spread. Despite a massive investigation involving over 120 officers, her killer was never found. What could drive someone to murder a beloved widow known for her gentle nature?

Helen’s final moments remained a mystery. Two people reported hearing a scream at 12:20 p.m. that day. Twenty minutes later, Helen’s friend, Sylvia Lewis, alerted by the barking dogs, discovered her lifeless body. Sylvia’s frantic call brought David and Hazel Davies to the scene, where they found Helen surrounded by her faithful companions, Bilbow and Cindy.

Police theorized Helen may have known her killer after reports surfaced that she had been talking to a youth. Witnesses saw two other youths fleeing the woods, and a mysterious figure carrying a yellow hard hat or crash helmet became the investigation's focus. Over the years, new leads emerged. Witnesses described a youth in a white ski jacket with red and blue trim and another in a ski jacket with red and grey squares. Thirteen years later, a potential witness came forward, leading to a photofit release in hopes of identifying the mystery youth.

Retired police officer Chris Clark suggested Helen might have been the first victim of a serial killer, linking her murder to the unsolved cases of Kate Bushell and Lyn Bryant, who were also killed while walking dogs.
