Bill Williams is an award winning journalist and author with a 40 year career in journalism. Some of his recent work calls into question the integrity of people in the Yavapai County government. His work details the relationship between the county, the sheriff, psychiatric health companies, and the sheriffs wife, CEO of Spectrum Health.

Many are concerned that this is a toxic relationship for the county because Spectrum Health delivers the treatment services to those who are jailed. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of The Prescott Times, the podcast host, staff, or guest. Jun 30 2024

Douglas Eckenrod is running for Sheriff in Yavapai County, Arizona. He is challenging the current Sheriff for the position. During his campaign he has discovered several concerning elements in the way the office of the Sheriff is being run.

This episode covers some of these major concerns, including psychiatric care contracts, improper prioritization of the people's tax money, salary savings from open positions, and more.

According to Mr. Eckenrod, the Sheriffs department belongs to the citizens of Yavapai county! Every dollar given to the department MUST have a provable connection to PUBLIC SAFETY. WE CAN NOT make the same enormous infrastructure investment mistakes (Like the $70 mill Justice Center) again and expect the public to pick up the pieces via another tax increase.

The existing YCSO budget IS enough to effectively Patrol our communities and Safely incarcerate offenders IF we get back to basics and challenge the direction of every dollar that does not support the Sheriffs mission as defined in the Arizona Constitution.

  • 59: YCSO Lieutenant Frank Barbaro
    Jun 29 2024

Frank Barbaro is a long time Lieutenant with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office. His decades of experience and exposure help us to understand what the climate is like inside the department that serves our rural community. In this episode we get a Frank's eye view of the good, the bad, and the ugly.

From Frank's perspective, YCSO appears to have issues with the prioritization of funds, proper patrol staffing numbers(based on needs of the community rather than available positions), recruitment and attrition, and an Internal Affairs system being weaponized against employees at nearly all levels. None of this is made clear in official presentations to the public.

This is a perspective most people could not be aware of without personally knowing someone who works in the department. The upcoming election for the position of Sheriff could change things immensely. Whether we get a new sheriff.. or just put pressure on the current one to do a better job for the community, it matters little to me.

Ultimately, We the People want to know that our deputies have our backs wen we need them. And the deputies want to serve with confidence knowing that their leadership has their backs too.
