  • Crafting The Marathon Mind: Giulio Rancadore's Boston Qualifier & Athletics Journey

    In this episode, we'll talk with Giulio Rancadore about his sports psychology & mental health wisdom and his journeys with his racing and marathoning. Giulio began his marathon journey in 2020, inspired by a general love of sports and skill for running. Since that initial race, he continued to polish his skills and smashed his PRs over 3 races, and even qualified for Boston. He now works at our local running store, The Runner's Market, and is the lead for the Runner's Market racing team and continues to support other runners and push the limits.     Giulio Rancadore has been living in East TN for the last 4+ years, and is originally from the California Bay Area where he went to San Jose State. He then came to Knoxville to go to the University of Tennessee for graduate studies. Sports & endurance athletics have been a big part of his life and education for many years, and he is also involved with sports physcology & mental training along with being an employee at the Runner's Market store. He is also the lead of the Runner's Market Racing Team and continues to improve his race times & PRS and strive for the next goals!

    Sean Williams is from Australia, originally from Sydney but now residing in Melbourne. Sean began running when he was just 8 years old, starting out in Little Athletics. Sean was a school teacher by day, running coach by night, starting out coaching groups of kids who wanted to run after school. He grew immensely effective groups of runners from the youth up through the years and has coached many champions and Olympians! He is also known for his work with youth athletes, helping them develop a love for running and achieve their best. In addition to his coaching, Sean's commitment to the sport extends to addressing issues like obesity and the impact of technology on physical activity. His dedication to promoting running as a healthy, accessible, and enjoyable activity has made a significant impact on the running community.

    In this episode, we'll talk with Hannah Fatheree and get an inside look into some of the raw struggles of the marathon journey, and her perseverance through it all. Hannah Fatheree began her marathon journey at age 19, inspired by her parents and has held strong to her passion for running, completing 10 marathons in recent years. She has also been steadily travelling around the USA in an effort to complete a marathon in every state! It hasn't all been easy for her though, and we will discuss the raw effort and emotion that embodies marathon racing and running as a mother, wife and professional.

    Meet Our Guest: Hannah Fatheree

    Hannah Fatheree has been living in the East TN area for the last 5 years, and is married with a daughter, Whitley. Running has been a huge part of her life since she was a kid, and she credits both her parents who are avid runners for supporting & inspiring her in the sport. She enjoyed cross country & track in high school, but moved onto road races when she started college. She first did the Snickers Marathon with her dad and was instantly hooked, and set out to complete a marathon in all 50 US states! She also has worked hard to expand the joy of running in our community by directing the Secret City Half Marathon & 5K for 5 years and growing/improving that race tremendously!

    MEET OUR GUEST: ALEX MCCALL Alex McCall is from New Zealand and has been immersed with running since childhood, having competed in cross country, rugby and many other recreational sports. He carried that passion onto adulthood until he was forced to stop running in the midst of a knee injury. He then tookup many flow sports, including wakeboarding & surfing, and continued to remain active and focused a lot on yoga, meditation and first principles training. Now, he is back running and has discovered the impact of nasal breathing and breath-training on the sport, and owns Skeletal Freedom which aims to share that knowledge with the world!     In this episode, we will talk with Melissa Correa about her experiences starting running 3 years ago and completing 4 marathons. Melissa began running coming out of a weight loss journey and the Navy, and has been dedicated and learning ever since. She has used running to support a healthier, well-rounded life for herself as a law student at the University of Tennessee and employee at our hometown Runner's Market. Melissa has made significant strides in her running, and has many great tips and information to share in this episode!

    Meet Our Guest: Melissa Correa

    Melissa began running in 2022 after an 80 lb weight loss journey and retiring from the US Navy and has flourished in running since then. She is now a law student at the University of Tennessee and on the Runner's Market Racing Team. Her first significant race was a half marathon in which she struggled in. She knew she could improve, so she got a coach and began to properly train and conquer the beast of the marathon as a beginner mid-pack runner. She has run 4 marathons and has found success in those races and many other smaller races. She is now striving for a sub-4-hour marathon and has set her sights on the Columbus Marathon this October and continues to PB on her races. She loves running and wants to continue to love it and improve throughout her life!

Elizabeth Herndon has challenged herself in many running events, and found her strength in the marathon and has now run 10 marathons, and 2 Olympic Trials along the way.     Beth has successfully balance athletics and professional endeavors for 10+ years, and began her running journey in middle school running cross country and track. She progressed from there, through high school, and landed at Washington University in Saint Louis competing at the top of her field while balancing undergraduate research. She then ran briefly at Penn State while in grad school, and found her success in marathons shortly after. Her main goals were to qualify for the USA Olympic Marathon Trials, and she was successful in 2016 & 2020. Now, she is a seasoned athlete, mother and researcher in the Environmental Sciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. We are so glad she could join us!

    Meet Our Guest: Ethan Coffey

    Ethan has been a staple of our hometown local road race scene for over 10 years and has been running races since childhood, and competitively since 1999. He ran marathons for 10+ years before reaching his PR (while striving for an Olympic Trials Qualifier) in 2019, then completed the Badwater 135. Ethan now competes as a master runner in a diverse array of races. Collegiately he ran for Carnegie Mellon University works full-time as a mechanical engineer at Oak Ridge National Lab, and is an entrepreneur for a small business, The Long Run. The Long Run specializes in boutique running apparel and has been an amazing addition to building the Knoxville running community. Ethan Coffey is a dedicated athlete, engineer and entreprenuer who we are so glad could come on the podcast!
