Get ready for a dynamic dialogue that bridges film analysis with pop culture commentary. Whether you’re a horror aficionado or just love a good conversation about movies and media, this episode has something for you!

  • Jingle All the Way with Brandon White - Episode 17
    Aug 1 2024

This episode we have our first guest from the #Filmtok Community, Brandon White. For those unsure of what that means: I met Brandon through the film critic and reviewing community on TikTok under the hashtag #filmtok. When he first said that he had an aversion to the director, Brian Levant - I said “Who?” The director of The Flinstones in Viva Rock Vegas, and The Christmas Story 2 - both sequels, AND the director of a film he had not yet seen: Jingle All the Way. While I do not like Christmas movies, I did think that mixing that subject with tackling Arnold Schwarzenegger in comedies could lead to some very interesting conversations. We talk about the rating system for films in the US, the depiction of children in films vs reality, the difference between campy and corny, the joy of putting yourself out there as an actor/filmmaker, and so much more. I’m quite glad we took the chance on this strange little 1996 classic, and I hope you’ll join us for the deep dive into Christmas in July with: Jingle All the Way.

  • Network with Conan Neutron - Episode 16
    Jul 15 2024
This episode we are joined again by a guest from a previous episode - Conan Neutron, who came on for our Valentine’s Day episode to talk about Moonstruck. Since he was willing to take a chance on a romcom, it felt only far for me to take a chance on his # 1 favourite film of all time: Network! Join us as we discuss this absolutely noteworthy film that seems to somehow not be on everyone’s radar- myself included! Even though it’s got ten oscar nominations, and four wins. Mind you, three films have received the most Academy Award nominations with 14 each: All About Eve (1950), La La Land (2016), and Titanic (1997). Titanic also won the most awards out of the three, with 11 wins, including Best Picture. Network also has TWO Oscar trivia notable wins: The first ever posthumously awarded Oscar win for Peter Finch (Best Actor), and the win with the shortest amount of screen time (5 mins, 40 seconds) for Beatrice Straight (Best Supporting Actress). If you’re finding your interest piqued by Oscar Trivia, stick around for our Corrections, Omissions and Deeper Dives section at the end of the show for more! • Tampopo with Jacob Davison - Episode 15
    Jul 1 2024

This episode we discussed the 1985 Japanese Comedy/Western with writer/director Jacob Davison. You may know him from his short film work - I have spoken about his film, Ei8ht on my TikTok short film reviews - or from his two podcasts: Eye on Horror with iHorror.com and The Hallow-Rewind Podcast. While he never specifically avoided the film, Tampopo, he was never really drawn into seeing it. I’m so glad that he didn't because this allowed me to have a wonderful conversation with him about the role that food plays in this slice of life film that is full of whimsy, absurdity, sex, food, gangsters, truckers, fights, and so much more!

  • Ice Pirates with Scott Tundermann - Episode 14
    Jun 15 2024

This episode we talk with our VERY FIRST ever guest, my husband, Scott Tundermann, about a film he’s been wanting me to see for a while, the 1984 Sci-Fi Comedy, Ice Pirates.

He hasn’t seen it since he was a kid, but remembers really thinking it was funny and often wonders why no one else seems to know about it, or have heard of it. I keep confusing it with the 2005 Pirates, which is the highest budget porno made. Join us as we descend into the chaos of Hollywood budgets and rewrites, while we look at the effect of positive nostalgia for media.

  • The Emperor's New Groove with Arielle Faye-Foulds - Episode 13
    Jun 1 2024

This episode has been a long time in the making. Since the second episode when our most frequent guest to date and true friend of the show, Arielle Faye-Foulds came on and we discussed Bad Boys. During that conversation it came to light that I had not yet seen the 2000’s animated insanity, The Emperor’s New Groove. Normally, I’m pretty averse to Disney films, animated films for children, and David Spade, so I will admit that I was exceptionally hesitant to agree to see this one. Although once I found out that is was Disney’s last fully hand-drawn feature length film I will admit I was drawn in for the historicity . However, once Ari explained its heartwarming place in her family’s lexicon, I started to see the reasons why families will build memories around Disney films.

  • Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring with Jayare - Episode 12
    May 15 2024

Continuing our month of May with the other co-host of Opinions MAY Vary, we have Jayare on to discuss why he has not yet seen ANY of the Lord of the Ring Trilogy! Since it would be absurd to have him watch all three films and a BEAST of a discussion to fit into this show, we decided to have them watch the first film, Fellowship of the Ring. This way, if they enjoy it, they can continue to watch the series.

The show focuses a lot on the idea of how to properly introduce a film, book, or any kind of media that you deeply enjoy to someone who may have missed out on it, without being so overbearing you wind up making them decide not to engage with it out of spite! We outline better methods for approaching this, and talk about times this both happened to us, and was done BY us!
