  • "The Impact of the Protestant Work Ethic" with Warren Linton
    Dec 15 2022

Warren Linton turns our attention to the idea of the "Protestant Work Ethic" as it was first described by Max Weber and later adapted and understood by those in predominantly protestant influenced cultures. In what ways does the protestant work ethic help us to understand the place of work in our lives? And in what ways does it lead us to misplace our attention and affections on work and so contribute to our struggles to find assurance in God.  Warren guides us through these questions in a rich and interesting discussion on the place of work in our lives.

A note that this will be the last episode for this year. The "Workplace & Faith Workshops" are taking a break over Christmas and the (Australian) Summer holidays. When the Zoom based Workshops recommence this podcast will also restart. In the meantime, have a blessed and wonderful Christmas and New Year.

  • “What Happens When My Career Does Not Work Out As I Planned” with Warren Linton
    Dec 1 2022

Warren Linton joins us and tells a very personal story of a career that never worked out the way he hoped it would. He tells of the dreams and ambitions of his youth, his diligence and hard work to achieve these goals, even his sense of God calling him into this work, and yet life bringing unexpected challenges and leading him down unlooked for paths. He shares with us how he found assurance in God, and how he found meaning through still living a life of obeying, loving, and serving God.

  • "Finding Confidence and Security in Precarious Work Environments" with Kara Martin and Peter Cumming
    Nov 17 2022

Kara Martin and Peter Cumming return to discuss their recent article: "Precarious Work Environments." Now the focus is on rhythms and routines that help us be centred on our calling from God in our work. Too often our work becomes about the tasks we need to complete and we have no way of connecting to the presence of God with us in our workplaces. But people in the Bible were often called to a particular contexts and to a particular people, not simply to a job or a task. Peter and Kara offer practical applications on how we can find our feet with God even in work situations that are uncertain and precarious.
